Research Fellow - Surgical Engineering

Position description
A Research Fellow position is available in the Department of Surgery at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. This opportunity will allow the postdoctoral fellow to participate in research and assist in successfully translating all stages of development for up and coming surgical devices. The medical devices will be starting clinical trials and the fellow will work on two projects. One project will be coordination of research activities and development of improved trauma care using a novel device for decompression of tension pneumothorax. The second project will be advancing and developing clinical trials for a video thoracoscope for reduction in complications of chest tube placement. This experience will expose the Research Fellow to many aspects of surgical research to include new technologies and the invention process from beginning to end. The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. (or other doctoral degree with a prior Master’s or Bachelor’s) in Engineering or Biomedical Engineering. Candidates will be required to have excellent oral and written communication and be able to effectively work as a team member.

A Research Fellow at Mayo Clinic is a temporary position intended to provide training and education in research. Individuals will train in the research program of a Mayo Clinic principal investigator. Qualified individuals will demonstrate the potential for research as evidenced by their training and peer-reviewed publications and should become competitive for national research grants. Proof of English proficiency is required for J-1 Short-Term Scholars, Research Scholars, Professors, Specialists, and Student Interns sponsored by Mayo Clinic. 800146; J2WRTP
Must have a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent doctoral degree in a field deemed relevant by the program. Research Fellow is appropriate for individuals who have completed no more than one prior postdoctoral fellowship, at Mayo Clinic or elsewhere.
