The Mayo Clinic Division of Engineering develops innovative products to change the patient experience at Mayo Clinic. We do that by providing solutions to help Mayo’s healthcare teams provide better care for our patients. Our primary focus is on the development of medical devices and laboratory instruments for our physicians and researchers. Our products cover the patient care spectrum from bench-top prototype to patient bedside. Recent work includes novel applications in the fields of robotics, patient monitoring, telemedicine, neurostimulation, and wearable devices.

Designs and develops components of biomedical-related engineering systems, applying
knowledge of complex principles, theories, concepts, tools and techniques to the design
challenges. Serves as a Technical Lead for Division projects. Provides technical and work
direction to project team members and completes technical work as needed. Mentors and
coaches other staff as required. Developing skills in one or more engineering disciplines.
Developing expertise in the use of unit-specific modeling and analysis tools and techniques.
May lead in evaluating new technologies and capital equipment. Understands and complies with
relevant portions of Division Quality Management System. Has unit-specific expertise in safety
risk management. Working to develop expertise in regulatory requirements applicable to
his/her unit. Self-starter who functions effectively in a multi-disciplinary development
environment. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with team members, physicians
and health care providers. Possesses effective oral communication and presentation skills.
Develops engineering and technical documentation.
BS in Engineering or a related field and 5 years of professional engineering experience; Or MS in Engineering or related field and 3 year of professional engineering experience; Or, PhD in Engineering or related field and 1 year of professional engineering experience.
A master’s degree is desirable. The preferred candidate will have strong leadership skills and the ability to communicate with a diverse technical, medical, and research staff. The preferred candidate will have experience in some or all of the following areas:
- Embedded system design, including circuit design, testing, debugging and firmware development.
- Analog and mixed-signal circuit design using op amps, filters, DACs, ADCs, sensors, etc.
- Analog and mixed-signal circuit simulation.
- Various digital interfaces, including I2C and SPI, as well as wireless protocols such as LTE 3G/4G/5G, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.
- Low-power hardware and sensor design
- Regulatory experience, particularly the FDA quality system regulation (21 CFR 820) and ANSI/AAMI ES:60601-1.
- Electronics test instruments (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, meters, etc.).
- Experience with MATLAB and SPICE.
- Applied knowledge using printed circuit board layout design software.
Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum salary every 2 weeks is approx $3,318.00, based on a full-time position.
Monday - Friday days. This position will be a combination of onsite in Rochester and telework.
