The Mayo Clinic Special Purpose Processor Development Group (SPPDG) is an R&D team dedicated to the development of next generation electronics and optics technologies for high-speed signal processing applications, in particular for, though not limited to, high clock rate digital signal processors and wide bandwidth, high center frequency analog systems. The SPPDG is equipped with a full suite of CAD and simulation tools, and clean rooms and equipment for assembling and testing microelectronics
The Mayo Clinic Special Purpose Processor Development Group (SPPDG) is in need of an electrical engineer with signal integrity interest and experience to support its R&D activities. The Special Purpose Processor Development Group (SPPDG), a research group within Mayo Clinic, has a team of microelectronics hardware and software engineers to support its design, analysis, and testing efforts. As part of this R&D team, the candidate would be expected to perform moderately complex microelectronic functions including: Research, design, and development of a wide variety of applications ranging from high-performance computers to discrete wearable devices; Analyze circuits, interconnect, and packaging with corresponding interaction and trade-offs between them using a range of circuit, RF/microwave, 2D and 3D electromagnetic, and custom analysis tools; Generate and use models ranging from discrete components to full end-to-end links; Conduct lab based validation of models by developing and measuring custom test vehicles; Identify technical risks and corresponding mitigation options. Other responsibilities involve documentation, presentation, and publication of research initiatives both to sponsors and industry; Limited travel to sponsors and collaborators; Initiation of and participation in design reviews; Collaboration with other researchers including SPPDG team members, external collaborators and sponsor. The candidate will work under limited supervision with non-routine assignments reviewed by Supervisor or other senior technical team members.
Bachelor's of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (may include other SPPDG research oriented fields) required. Requires a minimum of 2 years of engineering experience.

The successful candidate is expected to have a technical background in electromagnetics, transmission lines, impedance control, and differential signaling and experience using commercially-available analysis tools. The ability to communicate clearly and effectively with cross-functional team members and work independently but in collaboration with others is required. Additional desirable qualifications include: Experience with high-speed SerDes, DDR memory, and other common interfaces; Understanding of power integrity, circuit design, superconductors, system architecture, and wireless communication; Familiarity with packaging technologies – including printed circuit boards, BGA, interposers, MCMs, etc.; Familiarity with industry standards for interface protocols (e.g., PCIe and DDR).
License or certification
Must possess the following U.S. government security clearance: TS/SCI w/Poly
Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum salary every 2 weeks is approx $3128.00, based on a full-time position.
Monday-Friday; Work schedule of 9 hours per day, 9 weekdays per two week pay period.
