The Justilien laboratory studies the molecular mechanisms involved in cellular transformation, cancer progression and relapse. Specifically, we are exploring the signals within various lung tumor initiating cell populations that contribute to lung preneoplastic changes and lesion progression to invasive lung cancer. Our studies aim to: 1) identify markers for early cancer diagnosis and disease progression; 2) uncover specific vulnerabilities in cancer that can be therapeutically targeted; and 3) identify and develop markers to stratify cancer patients for treatment. We use a combination of cell-based 2D and 3D in vitro and in vivo tumor models, genomic, proteomic and bioinformatic approaches to perform these studies.
The successful candidate will perform daily laboratory activities, including maintaining cell culture, drug treatment, cellular transfection, cell imaging, running biological assays, RNA/protein isolation, RT-PCR and western blotting. The duties will also include animal colony maintenance, general laboratory maintenance inventory work, and assisting other laboratory personnel with experimental procedures as needed. Candidates will observe findings, record evidence, organize information, analyze data, and report results. The candidate will also be expected to assist in establishing a computerized database of reagents and protocols for use by the laboratory personnel.
We are looking for a highly self-motivated and organized individual to join our team. The successful candidate will have a passion for science, an inquisitive mind, and a strong interest to learn and implement new knowledge. Basic laboratory, math, and computer skills as well as attention to detail are a must. Experience with animal work, molecular, cell biological and/or biochemical techniques is an advantage. We provide a supportive environment and we are committed to offering individualized training, mentoring, and career development opportunities.
