The position involves the discovery of new technologies and innovations and performing evaluations of invention disclosures coming from Mayo's research and clinical activities. Specifically, the incumbent will identify and foster the continuing development and disclosure of new technologies and intellectual property to MCV and be accountable for patent related functions such as: a) assist in identifying potentially patentable inventions; b) provide background materials, such as prior art searches; c) assist in drafting patent applications; d) assist in evaluating patent correspondence, including the review of cited art with investigators; e) assist in right to use searches by identifying and evaluating third party intellectual property requirements; and f) assist Mayo's Legal Department in educating staff regarding patent issues.
Bachelor's degree in Biological or Physical Sciences or Business is required. Three years' experience in an academic research environment or healthcare industry is required. Must be willing to complete course requirements to pass the Patent Agent Exam required.
A Master's degree in these same fields of study is preferred. Must have the ability to recognize new technology opportunities and unmet clinical needs and act as an interface to facilitate the protection and advancement of technologies to improve patient care. Must possess excellent interpersonal skills, be detail oriented, be able to manage a large number of ongoing projects simultaneously and effectively communicate as a liaison among inventors, Office of Intellectual Property and Patent Counsel.
Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum salary every 2 weeks is approx $2,777.60, based on a full-time position.
Monday-Friday, daytime hours.
