Pharmacy

Whether you are a pharmacy student, new graduate, or experienced Pharmacist, this is your opportunity to change lives as part of one of the world's leading health care institutions. You can choose from a wealth of both hospital and outpatient positions.

In the hospital environment, you work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary health care team including physicians, nurses, other Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians. Your responsibilities include drug distribution, drug therapy monitoring, investigational drug accountability, education and supervisory functions.

You can also support our very large outpatient practice in a variety of roles including primary practice, hospital dismissal, a communication center and a high-tech automated processing center. Whatever you choose, you’ll find opportunities throughout our locations, including hospitals in Rochester, Minnesota; Phoenix, Arizona; and Jacksonville, Florida, as well as the Mayo Clinic Health System locations in Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin.

Specialized staff members and support personnel (see details below) assist you in meeting patient needs. Mayo Pharmacists are also supported by the latest technologies, computerized systems, and opportunities for continuing education, in-service classes, financial assistance and tuition reimbursement.

Pharmacy Support Personnel

Our Pharmacists are supported by technicians and service assistants. If you are interested in pursuing a career in Pharmacy, these roles are an excellent place to begin.

Pharmacy Technicians provide technical support in the outpatient, community, and hospital dismissal Pharmacies. Techs enter data, submit insurance claims, and select products related to prescriptions. They present prescriptions to the Pharmacist for verification, act as a liaison between patients and insurance companies, and provide excellent service to patients. Tasks are administered under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist. Pharmacy Technicians are required to have a High School Diploma or equivalent and state registration where applicable. Strong skills in communication, problem solving and organization are vital to this role.

Pharmacy Service Assistants care for patients while working under the supervision of a lead Pharmacy Technician, Technician Supervisor, or other supervisor. The Pharmacy Service Assistant provides clerical support in the pharmacy workflow while working with patients, pharmacy staff, and nursing staff. Working as a Pharmacy Service Assistant is a great first step for those interested in becoming a Pharmacy Technician in the pharmaceutical industry.

No matter where you begin, you will be welcome as part of a team that changes lives daily - our patients', and our own.
