Nursing Intern/Externship Programs
The Student Nurse Intern provides direct and indirect patient care under the direct supervision of a registered nurse in the appropriate setting across the continuum of care. They communicate with the registered nurse about changes in the patient’s clinical condition, results of diagnostic studies and symptomatology. The student nurse intern is able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in the patient’s condition or response to treatment. The American Nurses Association (ANA) Scope and Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics provide a basis for practice.
Summer III Student Nurse Internship
We invite you to explore the Summer III Student Nurse Internship, an employment and learning experience for junior nursing students at Mayo Clinic's campus in Rochester, Minnesota. Students from across the U.S. take part in the Summer III Program. During your Summer III experience, you'll be an integral member of an interdisciplinary health care team and work alongside registered nurses at Mayo Clinic Hospital. You will also have access to medical libraries and be welcome to participate in Mayo-sponsored continuing education activities, such as Grand Rounds and numerous other programs.
The Summer III Student Nurse Internship is a skill based paid 10-week full time program, providing opportunities to gain valuable clinical skills and experience. Rochester, MN campus has over 60 specialties, two hospitals, 10 ICUs, and around 130 operating rooms. Pay and schedule can be found on job posting beginning in November.
Qualifications include completion of junior year in an accredited bachelor’s in nursing program required. Must have completed junior year and graduating no later than following June of internship. Enrollment in MN summer internship credit required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from American Red Cross or American Heart Association and must not expire during internship.

Summer Surgical Technician Internship
The Student Surgical Technologist Internship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota offers a unique educational opportunity. In this internship, surgical technologist students will develop practical skills, apply the principles of aseptic technique while in the sterile role, and attain the professional skills of interpersonal communication with patients and interdisciplinary health care team members.
The Student Surgical Technologist Intern provides direct and indirect patient care under the direct supervision of a registered nurse in the appropriate setting across the continuum of care. They communicate with the surgical staff about instrumentation, surgical procedures, and sterility. The student surgical technologist intern is able to scrub alongside a certified surgical technologist. This experience is intended for students who will graduate from a CAAHEP or ABHES accredited surgical technology program within the next academic year. The Association of Surgical Technologists (AST) responsibilities and Code of Ethics provide a basis for practice.
This experience will take place from June 5th, to August 11th in Rochester, Minnesota.

Arizona Student Nurse Extern Summer Program
The Student Nurse Extern Summer Program at Mayo Clinic's campus in Phoenix/ Scottsdale offers nursing students a unique educational opportunity to gain valuable clinical experience in a high-acuity and diverse patient population. This program, offered at one of the world’s most exceptional health care institutions, takes place during an 8-week period over the summer months.
During your Student Nurse Extern Program experience, you'll be considered an integral member of our interdisciplinary health care team and work alongside registered nurses at Mayo Clinic Hospital. Nurse extern opportunities are available in all inpatient clinical areas. You will also have access to Mayo medical libraries and are welcome to participate in Mayo-sponsored continuing education activities, such as Grand Rounds and other academic offerings.
Mayo Clinic’s Nursing Care Model combines Relationship-Based Care with an evidence-based approach. This allows for a stronger connection between patient and caregiver, and a more individualized, appropriate type of care. The Nurse Extern will also discover a culture of teamwork, professionalism, mutual respect, and acquire valuable insight into the various roles of a professional nurse.

The Mayo Clinic Health System Student Nurse Internship Program in Eau Claire, WI is a skill based paid 11-week full time program for nursing students, providing opportunities to gain valuable clinical skills and experience. Interns rotate to different clinic and hospital departments including those in Eau Claire, Osseo, Menomonie and/or Barron. Pay and schedule can be found on job posting beginning in November.
Must be qualified to graduate from an accredited baccalaureate nursing program (BSN) or associate nursing program (ADN) by following December or May of summer internship.
