Administrative Fellowship Program

The Administrative Fellowship Program seeks candidates from strong master 's-level accredited programs. Our selection process aims to hire fellows who will bring diverse skill sets, backgrounds, work experiences, and interests to the organization.

Qualifications

You can watch this webinar to hear from current fellows about the expectations for the Administrative Fellowship Program (AFP) and the application process, as well as the Administrative Internship Program.  

  • Have a master's degree (M.B.A., M.H.A., M.H.S.A., or related field) or be on schedule to complete the degree before the fellowship start date in July (exception for programs that require a residency)
  • Candidates with a master's degree from a program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME) are preferred; applications from non-CAHME programs are accepted for review
  • Have healthcare industry experience such as an internship, externship, fellowship, or applicable employment
  • Possess broad knowledge of current and historical perspectives on health care strategy, business management and administration, clinical practice management, clinical research and education, hospital administration and management, finance, human resources and organizational development, information systems, innovation, and values-based leadership

Application Requirements

Beginning June 2024, the application will be open for all locations: Arizona, Florida, Minnesota and Wisconsin. The following materials are required to complete the application process:

  • Candidate Application Form
  • Resume
  • Graduate letters of recommendation (one academic and one professional)
  • Unofficial undergraduate and graduate transcripts with the awarded or conferred degree

Professional Development

In addition to your rotations, you can develop your leadership acumen in other ways:

  • Participate in a structured mentorship program that includes a second-year fellow, alumni fellow, site director, executive sponsor, and other organization leaders
  • Professional development funds to pursue individual outside learning opportunities, including but not limited to conferences, certifications and courses, etc.
  • Gain exposure to leadership groups through institutional committees as well as affinity groups (Mayo Clinic Employee Resource Groups)
  • Participate in personalized and professional growth plans available prior to starting in the position. This includes individual regular meetings, leadership assessments and programs, and coaching/mentoring from Site Directors and Preceptors.

Site Locations

Each fellow is assigned to a base location, where most of your rotational assignments take place. Site locations will be discussed during the interview process and while we take preference into consideration during the offer process, a specific location cannot be guaranteed.

On the application, you will be asked to designate interests in Destination Medical Center Healthcare, Community and Rural Healthcare, or Research.

The Research-track role can only be offered with a Rochester-based location.

We encourage the opportunity to experience another Mayo Clinic location during your fellowship through an “away rotation" taking you to Jacksonville, Florida; Phoenix/Scottsdale, Arizona; Rochester, Minnesota; or a Mayo Clinic Health System practice located in either Mankato, Minnesota; Eau Claire or La Crosse, Wisconsin.

Your time in the Administrative Fellowship Program consists of rotations through several key areas at Mayo Clinic. During your rotation planning discussions, you'll be encouraged to envision the full range of experience you hope to gain, so at the end of your fellowship, you'll be a strong candidate for the positions you wish to pursue.

The Administrative Fellowship Program's priority is two-fold: to support the long-term leadership needs of Mayo Clinic and the patients and people we serve today and, in the future, as well as to align the unique goals and interests of each fellow. With these priorities in mind, fellows are assigned rotations according to their capabilities, interests and need for development. If a fellow has a strong interest in a specific area, we will make every effort to provide an experience in that area, though we ask fellows to be flexible and responsive to our organizational needs and opportunities. Interim Operations Manager assignments may also be available as rotational experience.

Standard rotations and examples of recent assignments:

Practice Administration

  • Serve as Interim Operations Manager in Hospital Operations
  • Serve as Interim Operations Manager in Allergy and Pulmonary Medicine
  • Strategic project work in Surgery and Department of Medicine
  • Serve as Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology Interim Administrator
  • Serve as Division of Hematology Manager

Finance

  • Partner with leaders to develop annual operational budget and long-range financial planning
  • Assess procedural area finances and develop recommendations for optimization
  • Develop operational plans and budgets for clinical departments

Human Resources

  • Develop performance management tools
  • Facilitate process mapping sessions and provide recommendations to optimize the recruitment process
  • Support clinical department staff recruitment

Research Administration

  • Develop a clinical trials program business plan
  • Support the Department of Internal Medicine research retreat planning team
  • Provide project management and planning for new research building Provide project management for strategic refresh

Education Administration

  • Develop business proposals for medical school expansion
  • Provide project management for trainee forecasting
  • Facilitate recruitment process for educational leaders
  • Provide project management for a strategic refresh
  • Facilitate vendor evaluation process

    Program Mentors and Sponsors

    T'Nita Walker, Program Director

    T’Nita Walker, M.H.A., serves as an associate administrator with the Mayo Clinic Center for Individualized Medicine. Ms. Walker joined Mayo Clinic as an Administrative Fellow in Arizona in 2006. Following completion of the fellowship, she served as Operations Manager for the Department of Surgery and Department of Medical and Surgical Gynecology for four years. In 2012, she became an Operations Administrator in the Department of Neurosurgery, and her role expanded to Neurosciences in 2015. Ms. Walker transferred to Mayo Clinic in Florida in 2018 to serve as an Associate Administrator. In September 2021, she transitioned to the Associate Administrator role for the Center for Individualized Medicine. Ms. Walker holds a Bachelor of Arts from Purdue University and a Master of Health Administration degree from The Ohio State University.

    Lindsey Lehman, Rochester Site Director

    Lindsey Lehman, M.P.H., M.H.A., FACHE is the Associate Administrator for Hospital Operations at Mayo Clinic – Rochester and helps lead the Mayo Clinic Generative AI Program. Most recently, Lindsey served as the Vice Chair of Hospital Operations and has previously supported Critical Care, tele–ICU, Clinical Ethics, Endocrinology and Pulmonary Medicine. She joined Mayo Clinic as an Administrative Fellow in 2015. Lindsey holds the academic rank of Assistant Professor in the Mayo College of Medicine and earned Master of Public Health and Master of Health Administration degrees from the University of Missouri. She is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and served as the founding director of the Mayo Clinic Administrative Internship Program starting in 2018. 

    Hannah Johnson, Mayo Clinic Health System Eau Claire Site Director

    Hannah L. Johnson, M.H.A., is an Operations Administrator in Mayo Clinic Health System – Northwest Wisconsin Region (centered in Eau Claire, WI). In her current role, she provides administrative leadership to the Neurosciences Center including Neurosurgery, Neurology, Physical Medicine and Rehab, Pain Medicine, and Neurodiagnostics. She started her career with Mayo Clinic Health System in 2015 as an Administrative Fellow in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and subsequently had leadership roles with Population Health and Access Operations. Hannah has also worked at Allina Health in Saint Paul, Minnesota, as an operational leader for General Surgery and Plastic Surgery. Hannah received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire and her Master of Healthcare Administration from the University of Minnesota.

    Christine Feller, Mayo Clinic Health System La Crosse Site Director

    Christine Feller, M.H.A., FACHE, is an Operations Administrator supporting the Hospital Practice at Mayo Clinic Health System (MCHS) in La Crosse, WI. She is the Site Director of the SWWI Administrative Fellowship and Internship Programs. Christine joined Mayo Clinic in 2010 as an Administrative Fellow in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. She has since held progressive roles in Rochester and SWWI including leadership experience with Family Medicine, Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, Occupational Medicine, Psychiatry and Psychology, Orthopedic Surgery, Neurosurgery, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Pain Medicine. Christine is currently the lead administrator on the La Crosse Hospital Expansion Project. Christine holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Public Administration from the University of Wisconsin La Crosse and a Masters in Health Administration from the University of Iowa. 

    Cyd Moser, Scottsdale/Phoenix Site Director

    Cyd Moser, M.H.S.A., is the Operations Administrator for the division of Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine, Department of Critical Care Medicine, and Respiratory Care at Mayo Clinic in Arizona. Her favorite role is serving as the Arizona Site Director for the Administrative Fellowship Program. She is the former administrative partner to the Department of Medicine Associate Chair for Equity, Inclusion and Diversity and Vice Chair of the Operations Managers’ Forum. Cyd joined Mayo Clinic in 2014 as an Administrative Fellow. In 2016 she became the Director of the Midwest Admissions and Transfer Center and then transitioned to Operations Manager for the Hospital Practice in Rochester, MN. She was also the founding chair of eMERGing Leaders, a Mayo Employee Resource Group (MERG) supporting early careerists in leadership development. Prior to joining Mayo Clinic, she had a career in outcomes research at the University of Michigan. Cyd earned her Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Neuroscience from the Gustavus Adolphus College and her Master of Health Services Administration from the University of Michigan. She also holds certificates in Health Equity and Innovation from Arizona State University. She is involved with the American College of Healthcare Executives where she was previously a board member in Education and Diversity. 

    Gregory R. Beliles, Jr., Jacksonville Site Director

    Gregory R. Beliles, Jr., MBA, MSHA, RN, BSN, is the Enterprise and Florida Director for Advanced Care at Home. In this role, he works with physicians, nursing, and CDH partners to drive programmatic growth and maturation by leading efforts to envision, execute and accelerate Mayo Clinic’s transition from a location-centric paradigm to a digitally enabled and location-agnostic model harnessing the capabilities of the Mayo Clinic home hospital platform. He joined Mayo Clinic in 2015 as an Administrative Fellow in Arizona, has served as Operations Administrator for the Office of Access Management and the Division of Endocrinology and most recently as the Site Planning Administrator partnering with the Mayo Clinic in Florida (MCF) CEO, CAO and Executive Operations Team to identify, initiate, and implement strategic priorities to advance MCF and Mayo Clinic. Greg received his Bachelor’s degree from Auburn University in Biomedical Sciences and from the University of South Alabama in Nursing. He holds Master's degrees in Business Administration and Healthcare Administration from The University of Alabama at Birmingham.

    Kathleen McNaughton, Research Focus Director

    Kathleen McNaughton, J.D., CHRC, serves as the Administrator for Research Compliance at Mayo Clinic. Ms. McNaughton joined Mayo Clinic in 2009 and has enjoyed serving in various roles across the Mayo enterprise including Mayo-owned health plans, Contracting and Payer Relations and currently as the Research Compliance Officer. In addition to being passionate about Mayo Clinic and the patients we serve, she enjoys mentoring and supporting the professional growth of her staff and fellow colleagues.
