ResponsibilitiesThe Sr. Health Systems Engineer (HSE) has extensive organization perspective and provides business consultative services from discovery to execution for internal ,business units, oversight committees and external clients requesting expertise with execution and implementation, design thinking, management, process, and systems engineering, optimizing operational efficiency, aligning technical solutions with business objectives of Mayo Clinic, applied analytics or business and digital transformation. Independently applies knowledge of and demonstrated application of consulting and engineering expertise in areas such as business vision, strategy execution and goals; digital technology enablement; business use cases; operations optimization; change management; and solution implementation. Performs difficult business case analysis for departments, sites, or shields including analyzing quantitative and qualitative data, draws conclusions, and develops actionable recommendations to inform leadership decisions. Applies and develops advanced consulting and engineering frameworks and models throughout project lifecycle (defining client needs and required functionality early in the development cycle, documenting requirements, and then proceeding with design synthesis and system validation while considering the complete problem). Considers both the business and technical needs of all clients with the goal of providing an innovative product that meets current and future customer needs. Independently leads, drives, and enables multifaceted projects which may include subcomponents of larger scale projects as directed by the Technical Manager. Identifies, recommends, and implements transformational solutions for departments, sites, and shields including applied analytics and operations research methods, new staffing models, organizational structures, workflow and throughput, and digital interventions. Understands and models for up/downstream impacts on institutional changes across the integrated organization (practice, research, education, and administration). Successfully leads multidisciplinary teams in large strategic projects at both a local and enterprise-level. Generates new collaboration possibilities with internal and external clients and expands options for future collaboration. Promotes innovation across the organization by identifying opportunities to expand or redesign business strategies and services, and partners in the design, development, and implementation of innovative approaches. This position independently executes successful outcomes driven solutions for complex client engagements. Understands and models for up/downstream impacts on institutional changes across the integrated organization (practice, research, education, and administration). Leverages lessons learned to create best and next practice models, tools, frameworks, and methods enabling sustained transformational capabilities. Experienced in identification and monitoring of performance metrics, risks, and controls. Designs and develops new business processes and capabilities. Known as a go-to for excellence and functional expertise within the Service Line.
This is a limited tenure position that has been approved for one year.
This position is primarily remote but must live within driving distance from the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida campus with the flexibility to work on-site intermittently in accordance with business needs.
QualificationsMaster's degree in management, industrial engineering, systems engineering, operations research, business administration, analytics, artificial intelligence or health-related field is preferred with 4 years of experience to include several of the following areas of Strategy Department expertise: consulting, operations optimization, workflow and staffing analysis, management and systems engineering, digital technology enablement, applied analytics and leadership with strategic initiatives OR Bachelor's degree in management, industrial engineering, systems engineering, operations research, business administration, analytics, artificial intelligence or health-related field with 6 years of experience to include several of the following areas of expertise: consulting, operations optimization, workflow and staffing analysis, management and systems engineering, digital technology enablement, applied analytics and leadership with strategic initiatives.
Key Knowledge Required: General knowledge of core business consulting and management engineering, methods, models, and frameworks. Proven ability to successfully execute process improvement projects of limited to moderate complexity. Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage resources, and meet deadlines. Solid understanding of healthcare operations, systems, and workflow Proficiency in use of office and project simulation, optimization, and visualization tools (MS Excel, Word, Visio, Tableau, and other process modeling and mapping, statistical, analytical, data visualization and survey technology) to drive insights and support decision-making. Ability to gather and document project-based functional and business requirements. Advanced knowledge and demonstrated use of management and systems engineering, applied analytics, operations research, artificial intelligence as well as implementation and execution methods and tools. Proven ability to work
as part of a cross-functional team with internal and external stakeholders including all levels of organization leadership. Independently executes multiple organization-wide projects of difficult to extremely difficult complexity throughout the entire project lifecycle. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to identify root causes and develop effective solutions. Analyzes, articulates, strategizes, and designs for up/downstream impacts across clinical, research, education, and administrative business units and considers these impacts throughout the engagement. Actively researches, identifies, and applies industry best and next practices through experience and consultation with industry experts and professional associations. Oversees the creation and implementation of standards and best practices including the design and development of systems and management engineering and operations research tools, models, frameworks, methods, and processes. Demonstrates commitment to professional growth through focused continuing education, mentor relationships and peer review. Submits and publishes expertise related articles in business, scholarly, or peer reviewed journals and/or presents at nationally recognized conferences. Coaches Strategy Department peers, colleagues, and others as appropriate with minimal guidance from leadership. Willingness to travel regionally, nationally, and/or internationally. Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills, including at the executive level. Knowledge and experience within all shields of Mayo Clinic preferred.
