Responsibilities

The Clinical Social Worker is a core member of the interdisciplinary team of a mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) serving patients with persistent post-concussive and neuropsychiatric symptoms (e.g., depression, anxiety, irritability, PTSD, sleep disturbance, and cognitive complaints). The social worker delivers evidence-based psychotherapeutic and psychosocial interventions, coordinates care across disciplines, manages complex psychosocial needs, and links patients and families to community, vocational, and support resources. 

Conducts diagnostic assessment, determines clinical interventions, facilitates crisis intervention and short-term psychotherapy and provides education for patients and their families. Communicates effectively verbally and in writing while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and external support systems. Participates in the development and implementation of the treatment/transition plan. Functions as an interdisciplinary team member. This position includes specified billable patient contact hours dependent upon assigned unit/site. Functions within the research, practice, and education shields at Mayo Clinic. Complies with required standards for medical/legal responsibilities and serves as a resource to other allied and administrative staff within the section of Social Work and the Department of Nursing.

**This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship with the exception of the TN visa classification; Also, Mayo Clinic DOES NOT participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program.



Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Social Work. Two years supervised therapy experience in behavioral health and/or medical social work including diagnostic assessment, individual, group, and family therapy. Preferred: Clinical experience with population to be served. 

  • Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from a CSWE-accredited program.
  • Current independent clinical licensure in the state of Florida (LCSW).
  • Demonstrated training and competence in one or more structured psychotherapies (see Preferred Qualifications).
  • Current suicide-risk assessment and safety-planning competency

Additional Qualifications: 

  • Experience in brain injury, rehabilitation, neurology/neuropsychiatry, or behavioral health settings.
  • Formal training in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), which has the strongest current evidence base for improving anxiety, anger, and overall well-being in persistent post-concussion symptoms 
  • Training in problem-solving therapy, motivational interviewing, mindfulness-based approaches, and acceptance and commitment therapy.
  • Experience with co-occurring PTSD, mood, and substance use disorders, and with military/veteran populations.

License and Certification: 

Licensure to practice independently at the clinical level as required by applicable state requirements (LCSW, LICSW). Specialty certification/training as preferred by the work area. A list of approved certifications is available on Mayo Clinic intranet sites. Valid driver's license required for specific areas.

BLS (Basic Life Support) must be valid for 90 days post start date; acceptable certifications include: American Heart Association (AHA)/ Heartcode® BLS, Military Training Network, Red Cross (CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers).
