Responsibilities

Translates Mayo Clinic and Enterprise Revenue Cycle visions into meaningful and effective responses and results. Provides vision and general direction to areas of responsibility and ensures management and staff are trained, developed and delegated authority to carry out responsibilities and objectives for the daily operations. Participates in strategic planning to support organization's strategic direction. Develops strategic and operational plans to carry out the mission of Mayo Clinic and the Enterprise Revenue Cycle. Possesses overall knowledge appropriate to functions being managed with broad knowledge of theories of professional management. Supports and fosters opportunities to improve processes and acts as a catalyst for realizing these improvements. Acts as a facilitator and generator of new ideas and a mediator on difficult issues. Brings awareness of current external environment issues to the Enterprise Revenue Cycle and the Mayo Clinic. Participates in the leadership of the Enterprise Revenue Cycle by chairing and serving on Enterprise-wide projects/groups, task forces, councils and committees. Serves as a liaison between the Enterprise Revenue Cycle and other departments and agencies inside and outside Mayo. Creates a customer service driven division adept at working collaboratively with physicians and administrative colleagues, and across departments and Mayo Clinic. Creates a team oriented work environment including use of virtual management concepts. Develops, coaches, mentors, and encourages staff for future leadership roles for the Enterprise Revenue Cycle and Mayo Clinic. Responsible for retention initiatives. May possess and provide specific expertise unique to the Accounting and Revenue business cycles of Finance.

Regulatory, Compliance & Integrity

  • Comprehensive understanding of CMS, OIG, and payer regulations as they relate to documentation, coding, billing, and reimbursement.
  • Experience overseeing internal and external audits, responding to payer inquiries, and implementing corrective action plans in a manner consistent with Mayo Clinic’s commitment to integrity and transparency.
  • Ability to proactively integrate compliance principles into daily operations rather than relying on retrospective correction.

Technology & Innovation

  • Experience leveraging electronic health record platforms (Epic) and revenue cycle technologies to support accurate documentation, coding efficiency, and provider experience.
  • Familiarity with emerging technologies, including AI-enabled coding and documentation tools, with a thoughtful, evidence-based approach to adoption consistent with Mayo Clinic’s standards.
  • Ability to partner effectively with informatics, clinical, and IT teams to ensure technology solutions support clinical care, operational excellence, and long-term sustainability.


Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required (business, healthcare administration or related field) with 12-15+ years of applicable revenue cycle operations, revenue metrics and analytics and revenue management experience required. Requires knowledge of accounting systems and insurance issues, healthcare industry issues and trends, legal issues in field of expertise, required third party and governmental guidelines, and work processing.12+ years of leadership experience in a multi-facility, integrated health care delivery system or consulting experience preferred.

Exhibits strong leadership, integration and execution skills with considerable experience in planning, formulating, and execution strategies with the ability to define program, process, or business objectives and scope, while also demonstrating proficiency and expertise to identify, evaluate and articulate operational opportunities, and risks, business needs/gaps, and understand customer/stakeholder interests.

Possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively identify, assess and facilitate improvements and resolution to present advisory, persuasive and authoritative recommendation to all levels. Requires proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Exhibits strong, collaborative leadership qualities that can bridge across multiple disciplines. Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment. Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals and values of Mayo Clinic.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10-15 years of progressively responsible experience in healthcare revenue cycle operations, with demonstrated leadership oversight of coding, revenue integrity, and outpatient clinical documentation integrity functions.
  • Experience leading large, highly specialized teams within an academic medical center or integrated healthcare system, supporting complex, high-acuity clinical practices.
  • Extensive knowledge of professional and outpatient coding, including CPT®, HCPCS, ICD-10-CM/PCS, E/M guidelines, charge capture methodologies, and documentation standards across medical and surgical specialties.
  • Demonstrated expertise in outpatient clinical documentation integrity, including physician engagement, concurrent documentation review, compliant query practices, and documentation optimization to accurately reflect clinical complexity and patient care.
  • Proven experience developing and leading provider education programs that support documentation accuracy, regulatory compliance, and clinical efficiency, while respecting physician workflows and professional judgment.
  • Strong background in revenue integrity operations, including charge description master (CDM) knowledge, clinical validation, audit preparedness, payer policy interpretation, and continuous monitoring of regulatory changes.
  • Successful track record collaborating with physicians, clinical leadership, compliance, legal, finance, and information technology partners to advance shared goals in quality, integrity, and financial stewardship.

  • Revenue Integrity & Compliance
    • Certified Revenue Integrity Professional (CRIP)
    • Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) or equivalent
  • Leadership & Process Improvement (Preferred)
    • Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE)
    • Lean, Six Sigma, or equivalent continuous improvement certification
