Responsibilities

The Education Supervisor oversees the design, delivery, and evaluation of training programs. This role combines technical expertise, people leadership, and quality oversight of education, ensuring staff competency, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement across pre-analytic operations. This position will support all areas of operations including: Dock, Accessioning, Liquid Handling, Specimen Distribution, Mayo Lab Inquiry, Inventory, and Global Logistics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and mentor Education Coordinators, Education Specialists, and/or Education Training Assistants
  • Develop and maintain standardized training curricula for:
    • Specimen accessioning,  labeling, handling, transport, and storage
    • Lab referral platforms and new systems
    • Specimen rejection criteria and error prevention
  • Ensure training programs meet CLIA, CAP, Joint Commission, and internal quality standards
  • Support the build out of Quality SOPs
  • Partner with leadership, quality, and operations to identify training gaps and performance trends
  • Lead onboarding programs for new hires and role transitions
  • Create leadership development programs that help retain staff at every level of the organization
  • Oversee competency assessments, annual re-competencies, and remediation plans
  • Work with Quality to analyze pre-analytic error data and implement targeted education interventions
  • Support change management for new tests, equipment, workflows, or regulatory updates
  • Participate in audits, inspections, and corrective action planning related to training
  • Maintain education documentation and training records
  • Adapt training methods (“thinking outside the box”) to modern needs rather than historical practices
  • Reinforce consistency across work units to avoid customized, non‑standard education processes
  • Ensure core training materials and information are provided with adequate lead time pre–go‑live

Optimize Scheduling to Support Training

  • Align staff schedules with frontline training needs.
  • Reduce schedule disruptions caused by cross‑team “fires” that pull ETAs away from planned duties
  • Improve evening and general training coverage, especially where large backlogs exist

Improve Communication & Planning for Educational Needs

  • Ensure work units communicate staffing and process-change needs early and consistently
  • Create a more proactive, predictable workflow for training support
  • Foster an inclusive environment that considers all learning types removes barriers for English as a second language employees 

Support Document Management System Transition

  • Plan migration of documents to the new Quality & Compliance document management system 
  • Determine the impact of DLMP documents referencing MCS documents and whether dual maintenance will be needed.

    **This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Also, Mayo Clinic DOES NOT participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program**

    *Individuals hired to this position are required to complete 2 years in the role before being eligible to transfer to other positions within Mayo Clinic



Qualifications

In the non-testing laboratories (Laboratory Services, Central Processing, Microbiology Initial Processing, Preparation and Processing, Autotransfusion, IMPACT, Hematopathology Support Lab, Operational Support Unit, MML Operations, and Donor Services) and Histopathology laboratories: Bachelor's degree, preferably in CLS/MLS/MT, management/business, sciences or a health-related field and four years of laboratory or management experience. 

Additional Skills and Qualifications:

Must have demonstrated leadership, communication (oral and written) and problem solving ability. Must be highly organized, efficient, and able to work independently. Requires human relations skills to influence and motivate others. 

  • Prior supervisory or leadership experience strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated instructional design and adult learning experience
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory and accreditation requirements

  • Training completion and competency compliance rates
  • Staff readiness and onboarding effectiveness
  • Reduction in pre-analytic specimen errors
  • Staff retention

Foreign trained lab personnel to provide a detailed equivalency evaluation to include US equivalent degree at the applicant's expense.
