Responsibilities
The lab of Paul Tang, MD, PhD is seeking motivated, creative, and enthusiastic candidates to join us in researching the biology of donor heart preservation and cardiovascular aging which includes the study of cell biology, metabolism, and liquid-liquid phase separation with molecular condensate formation. We seek a lab technician who will be responsible for management of mice colonies as well as small and large animal surgeries/experiments such as ex-vivo heart perfusion and heart transplantation. Skill set in common lab techniques such as immunohistochemistry, western blots and PCR are also desired. Our lab is a dynamic group with a goal is to make seminal discoveries in organ preservation biology and cardiovascular aging as well as translate cutting-edge science to clinical practice. Our lab has ample opportunities to develop valuable scientific skillsets and make novel discoveries in cardiovascular science. Research in the lab receives funding from multiple external grants including the NIH (R01), American Heart Association, industry partners, Professional Society Foundations, and clinical trials.
Examples of areas of research include:
1. Study of molecular phase separation events in determining cardiac preservation quality
2. Impact of chromatin structure on the biology of aging hearts and susceptibility to ischemia
3. Study of plasma membrane processes that endow cardioprotective properties during ischemia-reperfusion
4. Drug therapeutics to improve cardiac resilience to ischemic injury

Primary tasks:
Set up and performs routine and established lab procedures in support of lab goals, grant commitments, i.e., assays, cell/tissue culture, animal studies, etc. Monitor results, report unusual outcomes, and suggest modifications. Collect, enter, and summarize data. Assist in the maintenance of lab equipment and supplies. Perform basic statistical data analysis; prepare tables/charts/graphs and assist in organizing data. Present at research laboratory meetings and contribute to writing of manuscripts. Work under supervision and may perform some assignments independently as discussed and approved by Principal Investigator.
Qualifications
Requires bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, other relevant science, or an associate’s degree with 6 years of relevant laboratory experience. Must exhibit a solid understanding of lab techniques, equipment, and safety. Must have the ability to organize and carry out laboratory techniques independently and in a team setting. Experience with basic data analysis is required. This position requires demonstrated writing skills.
