Responsibilities
Work study student employees are representatives of Mayo Clinic, working cooperatively with all Mayo Clinic staff, external clients, students, and advisors. The student is responsible to and receives direction from assigned department supervisor. Work study employment provides students that have interest in research and view Mayo Clinic as an employer of choice an opportunity to explore our culture, gain field experience and pursue their career goals.
Various areas include (but are not limited to): Cardiovascular, Gastroenterology, Molecular, Nephrology & Hypertension, Oncology, Physiology & Biomed, and Pulmonary research.
The work study employee schedule will be arranged collaboratively between the work study employee and assigned department supervisor and in compliance with the financial aid award amount and minimum hours per week (10 hours) requirements*. Work study employees are responsible for indicating changes in financial aid award to their assigned supervisor, as well as the work study office.
**This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship with the exception of the TN visa classification; Also, Mayo Clinic DOES NOT participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program.
Qualifications
This opportunity is open to applicants who meet all the following:
- Currently enrolled at the University of Minnesota - Rochester (UMR)
- Graduated from high school or obtained a GED
- Granted and accepted a financial work study award of $2,700 for an academic year
*If you are selected for this position, you will be required to work a minimum of 8-10 hours per week.
Additional Qualifications
- Ability to be attentive to details and to adhere to strict safety requirements for handling chemicals, reagents and infectious agents
- Computer or keyboarding experience
- Good human relations skills and the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
