Responsibilities

The Nuclear Medicine division of the Department of Radiology at Mayo Clinic Arizona is looking for a full-time nuclear radiology faculty member. This position involves clinical, academic, educational, research, and leadership responsibilities.

PRACTICE DETAILS, EXPECTATIONS AND OPPORTUNITIES

Our fully subspecialized and rapidly expanding nuclear radiology practice conducted over 15,000 studies last year. These included general nuclear medicine, cardiac SPECT and PET, oncological and non-oncological PET/CT and PET/MR, as well as a comprehensive range of radioligand therapies.

The Nuclear Medicine division is currently staffed by six full-time nuclear radiologists certified by the American Board of Radiology (ABR) and the American Board of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (ABNMMI), alongside several collaborating nuclear cardiologists. This division operates on both the Phoenix and Scottsdale campuses and is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including two digital PET/CT scanners, a 3T PET/MR scanner, five SPECT/CT scanners, two cardiac DSPECT scanners, one molecular breast imaging camera, and three hot labs. An anticipated hospital expansion will accommodate a new therapy center featuring multiple therapy rooms, a hot lab, reading rooms, clinical and research spaces, and a therapy-dedicated SPECT/CT. Furthermore, in 2026, the division plans to install an advanced extended axial field-of-view digital PET/CT scanner, which will enable whole-body imaging in a single position. The staff of the Nuclear Medicine division actively participate in several multidisciplinary conferences and collaborate closely with clinical colleagues, particularly oncologists, radiation oncologists, surgical oncologists, cardiologists, and urologists.

Mayo Clinic Arizona is a SNMMI Comprehensive Radiopharmaceutical Therapy Center of Excellence and has a robust radiotherapeutics practice as well as an onsite cyclotron radiochemistry facility for customizable radiolabeling and synthesis. The division members work in close collaboration with other Mayo Clinic sites, including Mayo Clinic Rochester and Mayo Clinic Florida.

The candidate will have access to numerous educational opportunities within the Department of Radiology, which includes an ACGME-accredited Nuclear Radiology fellowship, dedicated ABR dual pathway resident positions, as well as Diagnostic Radiology and Interventional Radiology residencies. Our Diagnostic Radiology residency program is ranked among the top in the nation and currently accommodates 20 residents. The program will be expanding to 30 residents in the forthcoming years. Additionally, several radiology fellows rotate electively in NM during their training. There is regular interaction with Mayo Clinic and non-Mayo Clinic medical students, offering numerous teaching and mentoring opportunities. Extensive research opportunities are available, as we participate in multiple Enterprise and site-specific phase 1-3 diagnostic and radioligand therapy-related clinical trials.

Summary

We are looking for a skilled nuclear radiologist to strengthen our practice and expand our presence in the Nuclear Medicine/Radiology field. The candidate should excel in nuclear radiology, nuclear cardiology, PET, and radioligand therapies, while fostering innovation and productivity.  The ideal candidate should have three to five years of post-training experience and a record of competence in clinical practice, education, and research. Academic appointments (assistant professor, associate professor, or professor) will be determined based on Mayo Clinic’s academic appointment guidelines. The new colleague will join a practice that emphasizes clinical excellence while providing opportunities for research and education.
