Responsibilities

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Communications Manager to join our team and advise leaders at two Mayo Clinic locations: Florida and Arizona. This is an onsite role located at the Jacksonville, FL Mayo Clinic campus. This individual is responsible for advancing an integrated strategy to support business priorities in internal and external environments. This includes planning, oversight, execution and measurement of strategic and operational communications plans for broad audiences and specific stakeholder groups in alignment with strategic priorities. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in enhancing employee and learner engagement, elevating the brand, creating community connections, advancing top clinical service lines, supporting issues management, and driving innovation and storytelling. The candidate will work with a matrixed team of communicators across Mayo Clinic who work in an agency-style model.  

The manager partners with the Senior Director for Communications to execute operational goals, prioritize work, ensure effective and efficient operations, maintain high standards for service excellence and identify opportunities for continuous improvement. Develops and maintains relationships with Mayo Clinic executive leadership, physicians, scientists, learners, clinical and allied health staff, plus key external stakeholders and media to advance organizational awareness and achievements. 

The manager is primarily responsible for the management of programs and leveraging functional expertise. May serve enterprise and site leadership needs through participation on committees, task forces and workgroups.

This position is primarily on-site with occasional travel required based on business needs. This individual must live within driving distance of the Mayo Clinic Jacksonville Campus to meet these on-site requirements.



Qualifications

Requires a bachelor's degree in a related field plus 5 years of relevant work experience. Strong written and oral communication skills. Ability to communicate in a way that creates clarity, simplifies messages, and aligns with organizational strategy and A.P. style. Knowledge of modern communication channels and platforms and the ability to build effective communication and engagement strategies. 

Additional Qualifications:

  • Exceptional written communication skills and attention to detail are foundational to success. Additionally, demonstration of success within an organizational comms role.
  • Proven ability to interact confidently with senior leaders within the organization and the broader community.
  • Mindset that is both innovative and flexible.
  • Healthcare experience is preferred but not required. However, must be comfortable working in a hospital environment.
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to independently identify opportunities, solutions and resolve challenges. 
  • Requires an attitude that actively seeks out change, embraces critical questioning, innovation, service and continuous improvement. 
  • Must understand how to deal with and navigate ambiguity, and act without having the total picture. 
  • Demonstrated professionalism and ethics, with ability to earn credibility through integrity and transparency. 
  • Role models service excellence. 
  • Motivates others by being present, engaged, and attentive. Invites diverse perspectives, demonstrates and inspires a collaborative spirit. 
  • Demonstration of strong management skills including strategy and visioning, change management, resource management, and sound judgment are required. 
  • Demonstrated use of management principles of delegation, organization and execution to maximize the value of projects and initiatives is also essential. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to include presentation, negotiation, persuasion, team facilitation, constructive feedback and written communications skills are required.
  • Superior project management experience, knowledge and skills must be demonstrated. 
  • Incumbent must have the ability to independently manage a varied workload of projects with multiple priorities. 
  • Demonstrates interest in continuous learning and professional development, in addition to functional area expertise.
