Responsibilities
The Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Sleep Medicine at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida is seeking an experienced Sleep Medicine physician to serve as Medical Director of the Sleep Center and deliver world class care to complex sleep patients at its Destination Medical Center campus. Successful candidates will be expected to display foundational leadership capabilities, including an ability to inspire teams and drive transformational change. The Director must provide exceptional patient care in a multidisciplinary setting, contribute to excellence in advancing high impact research projects and in the education of residents/fellows in the Sleep Center, and demonstrate exceptional teamwork with advanced practice providers, nursing and all care team members. Board Certification in Sleep Medicine and the ability to obtain an unrestricted Florida license is required.
1. Ideal qualifications include the following:
- Five or more years of experience in the management of complex Sleep Medicine patients, including sleep-related breathing disorders, sleep behavior disorders, parasomnias, insomnia and restless legs
- Experience in interpretation of overnight oximetry and polysomnogram interpretation
- Strong interest in a career in academic medicine with proficiency in education and teaching of medical learners (medical students, residents, and physician extenders/advanced practice providers)
- Ideal research interests include Outcomes Research, Big-Data, Telemedicine, Information Technology, Predictive Analytics and using Quality Improvement Tools. Individual research interests in Sleep Medicine are encouraged as well.
- Demonstrated leadership experience and ability to work tactfully and effectively with multiple departments including Pulmonary, Neurology, Nursing, Allied Health, and Pharmacy

Candidates should expect the following:
- Function as the Medical Director of the Sleep Medicine Service Line and Sleep Center
- Provide supervision and clinical education to residents and fellow
- Clinical schedule in proportion to funded research and administrative responsibilities
2. Medical Director Roles and Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Chair of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Sleep Medicine on practice, education, and research priorities
- Drive high impact research and innovation within the Sleep Medicine service
- Contribute feedback to annual reviews of Sleep faculty
- Lead quality improvement initiatives for the Sleep Medicine service
- Facilitate interdepartmental communication and collaboration to optimize patient care
- Champion evidence-based practices and protocols for the Sleep Medicine service
- Represent Sleep Medicine in institutional committees and initiatives
- Ensure adherence to Mayo Clinic RICH TIES values in all aspects of unit operation
- Mentor junior faculty and fellows in clinical and academic pursuits

- Experience and expertise managing clinical aspects of Sleep Medicine patients
- Excellent medical professionalism and bedside manner for patients and caregivers
- Emotional intelligence to collaborate and coordinate with multiple aspects of the health care team, including nursing, APPs, trainees, surgeons and other departments while guaranteeing a patient-centered approach
- Able to lead a multidisciplinary team in an academic environment, lead conflict resolution, and lead change management and quality-improvement initiatives among teams
- Good steward of healthcare resources
- Demonstrated ability to uphold Mayo Clinic RICH TIES values in professional practice and leadership
This is a full-time Sleep Medicine leadership position. Candidates must have ABSM Sleep Medicine board certification.
We are interested in those applicants that are at least Associate Professor level faculty with a minimum of 5 years of Sleep Medicine experience. Candidates must have a strong commitment to an academic career, and previous experience in research. Successful candidates will be expected to provide exceptional patient care in a multidisciplinary setting, contribute to the education of trainees (medical students, residents/fellows, APRN/PA fellows), demonstrate teamwork with APRN/PA known as Advanced Practice Providers (APP) and contribute significantly to increase research productivity within the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Sleep Medicine.
Candidates must be eligible for an unrestricted Florida license.
