Responsibilities
The Physician Assistant and Acute Care Nurse Practitioner has advanced health assessment and decision-making skills, prepared through a formal educational program that meets criteria established by the profession. Physician Assistants are certified by examination of an approved certifying body. This individual works in collaboration with physicians and other health care professionals to provide health care across the continuum of care for assigned patients. The Physician Assistant and Acute Care Nurse Practitioner provides clinical services in a hospital setting, either on an admitting or consultative service greater than 50% of the time. This position will be required to participate in the on-call rotation and provide coverage for various shifts, weekends, and holidays.
Physician Assistants and Acute Care Nurse Practitioners provide primary and specialty health care to new and established patients, assess and manage common acute and chronic illnesses, consult and make referrals, and collaborate with physicians and other members of the health care team. The provision of care includes, but is not limited to obtaining patient history, comprehensive assessment, ordering, conducting, and interpreting diagnostic tests, and prescribing pharmacological agents and treatments and non-pharmacological therapies. Monitors the effectiveness of the therapeutic interventions. Makes appropriate referrals. Performs minor procedures as approved by the AZ Regulatory Board of Physician Assistants. This individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span. The ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and appropriately interpret information relative to the patient's age-specific needs is required.
The Physician Assistant and Acute Care Nurse Practitioner will be involved in patient and family education of disease management and treatments and may also be involved in research or educational activities within their department. Physician Assistants and Acute Care Nurse Practitioners are expected to serve as mentors, and to participate in clinical improvement and research projects as appropriate to the clinical setting. Other specialty specific job responsibilities required as needed. The Physician Assistant and Acute Care Nurse Practitioner demonstrates leadership through involvement on committees and team projects, education, and research and actively seeks to improve the practice through performance improvement initiatives. Remains active in professional organizations and participates in community activities. Flexibility to adjust schedule to meet patient and staff needs. Ability to manage time and stress effectively and adapt to unpredictable situations within the patient care setting.
Patient population: Pre and Post Liver transplant patients, and other acute hepatologic conditions.

Qualifications
Acute Care Nurse Practitioner: Masters-prepared graduate of an accredited school of nursing and Nurse Practitioner program. Current AZ RN and APRN license and certification as a ACNP or AGACNP
Physician Assistant: Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program with current PA certification by NCCPA and registration as a PA by the AZ State Board of Medical Practice.
Additional Qualifications:
Active BLS and ACLS certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross at start date and DEA registration required
- Transplant or Internal Medicine experience preferred
