Responsibilities
The Department of Radiation Oncology at Mayo Clinic in Arizona is seeking a visionary and accomplished leader to serve as Division Chair of Medical Physics. This is a unique opportunity to lead a world-class medical physics program within a premier academic medical center known for its patient-centered approach, integrated multidisciplinary care, and commitment to innovation.
As Division Chair, you will lead our group of 18 MS and PhD staff members along with 4 physics assistants and 4 medical physics residents. Treating on average 160 patients/day, the department has 4 Varian TrueBeams, 4 Hitachi proton gantries, 3 CT simulators and ongoing programs in SRS/SRT/SBRT, proton beam therapy, HDR, GRID, TBI, TSET and IORT. The successful candidate will work closely with the Chair of the Department and with senior leadership in building the education, research and clinical profile of the department.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and oversee the operations of the radiation oncology physics division in Arizona, ensuring excellence in patient care, safety, and performance.
- Promote a culture of mutual respect, collaboration and accountability. Facilitate productive working relationships and resolve conflicts
- Drive quality assurance, standardization, and continuous improvement of physics services, in coordination with medical and administrative leadership.
- Foster a strong academic environment by mentoring faculty, staff and trainees, and promoting collaboration across disciplines.
- Advance a strategic research agenda through independent and collaborative studies, with an emphasis on securing extramural funding and translating discoveries into clinical innovation.
- Play a key leadership role in the planning, commissioning, and clinical integration of new technologies, treatment delivery systems, and facility expansions.
- Collaborate with national and Mayo Clinic enterprise-wide partners to support unified standards and elevate the practice of radiation oncology physics.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate is a recognized leader in medical physics who brings:
- A doctoral degree medical physics with certification by the American Board of Radiology (ABR) or equivalent in radiation oncology physics.
- Experience in proton and photon based therapy
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in clinical medical physics, including progressive leadership roles within an academic health system.
- Builds rapport, encourages teamwork, empowers others and develops consensus in leading and managing group dynamics
- A record of successful scholarly contributions to the field.
- A strong commitment to fostering a culture of collaboration, excellence and innovation.
