The ideal candidate will possess a remarkable capacity for innovation, transcending traditional research domains. The ideal candidate will have an active research program. Physician candidates who have significant research portfolios are encouraged to apply.
Candidates should be recognized as thought leaders in their specific area of cancer research, with a sustained history of leadership in team-based science, impactful publications and a robust history of securing extramural cancer-related research funding, including NIH/NCI. They should demonstrate a strong commitment to team science, mentorship of junior faculty through independence, and fostering collaborations between clinical and academic research departments. Critically, the candidate should have a strong commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity in the scientific community, with a history of initiatives or leadership roles that promote a more inclusive and equitable research environment. The position will hold a leadership role in the Mayo Clinic Comprehensive Cancer Center. (MCCCC) and will actively contribute to enterprise-wide research/translational activities. Mayo Clinic Arizona is one of the three-site, NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center which is currently re-competing for its NCI Cancer Center Support Grant. As the individual’s research program will be located at the Mayo Clinic Arizona (Scottsdale or Phoenix campus), the recruited investigator will be expected to integrate well and welcome collaborations with scientists, clinician investigators, and clinicians engaged in research at Mayo Clinic Arizona, yet also support enterprise-wide strategic collaborations and initiatives.
Highlights of Mayo Clinic Research Enterprise:
- Over 5,000 research personnel, including 317 faculty level research investigators and 909 physicians who are actively involved in research.
- 10,505 peer-reviewed papers were published in 2023.
- Investments in research each year that result in hundreds of new clinical trials. In 2023, the institution received over $689 million in extramural research awards supplemented with over $446 million of institutional support.
- Nearly 10,000 active studies involving human participants in progress. More than 6,050 research grants and contracts.
- State-of-the art laboratories and shared resource facilities, including those for microscopy and imaging, cell and molecular biology, animal models, production of iPS cells and clinical grade MSCs, biomedical engineering and mathematics, materials testing, a Medical Genomics Facility, a Mouse Modeling Facility, Molecular and Microscopic Core Facilities, and unique Human Disease Tissue Banks.
- Over 420,000 square feet of research laboratory space includes several robotic freezers capable of storing 3.5 million DNA samples.

Qualifications
Candidates are required to have a PhD., MD or equivalent degree in a relevant discipline, with a track record of success in extramural funding, publications, and collaborations with clinicians.
