Responsibilities

Join the Mayo Clinic team as our new Communications Manager of People Engagement and lead the charge in developing and executing our people engagement communications strategy. In this instrumental role, you’ll partner with Mayo Clinic Human Resource leadership to craft and execute a dynamic communication plan that resonates across the enterprise and effectively reaches all employees. Your work will ensure all our people feel connected and understand how their role supports Mayo Clinic’s goals, priorities and strategy. Your mission: to drive the engagement strategy, framework and communications calendar to strengthen employee engagement.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop communication strategies that win the hearts and minds of our employees.
  • Provide strategic communication counsel on people engagement.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive communication plans for people engagement that align with Mayo Clinic’s values, mission, vision, brand positioning and employee value proposition.
  • Creates messages and communications that are impactful, accurate, and optimized for maximum reach and engagement.
  • Ensure brand and message alignment and coordination of communications.
  • Drive meaningful connections across the enterprise organization. 
  • Partner with HR Employee Events and Recognition team in aligning strategies to continue and improve staff engagement across the enterprise. Support and communicate employee recognition programs to celebrate achievements and contributions.
  • Stay current on industry trends and best practices in Employee Engagement
  • Utilize employee feedback, surveys and analytics to assess engagement levels and identify opportunities for improvement. Translate data into actionable insights that inform engagement strategies.
  • Establish metrics and track effectiveness of communication strategies, adjusting as needed to maximize engagement.
  • Partner with leadership to foster an environment that supports open communication and collaboration, providing tools and resources to enable them to champion employee engagement within their teams.
  • Explore, identify and implement technology and tools that promote and support greater connection and engagement. 
  • Participate in making communications more engaging and creative.
  • Lead initiatives that support equity, inclusion, and diversity within the workplace.

The manager understands Mayo Clinic business objectives and priorities and leads the development of strategies to support those objectives. The manager partners with other department leaders to execute operational goals, prioritize work, ensure effective and efficient operations, maintain high standards for service excellence and identifies opportunities for continuous improvement. Develops and maintains relationships with Mayo Clinic executive leadership, staff and members of the local and national government and/or media to advance organizational awareness and achievements. The manager is primarily responsible for the management of staff and/or programs and leveraging functional expertise. May serve enterprise and site leadership needs through participation on committees, task forces and workgroups.



Qualifications

Required: Bachelor's degree in a related field plus 7 years of relevant work experience, or master's degree in a related field plus 5 years of relevant work experience.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Demonstrated experience in human resource communications, employee engagement, or a similar role.
  • Creative, strategic and thoughtful communications leader to help us keep our people inspired, engaged, and connected to Mayo’s primary value: the needs of the patient come first.
  • Strong understanding of internal communications and large enterprise nuances.
  • Familiarity with quantitative and qualitative methodology, data analysis standards and practices.
  • Proven data analysis capabilities.
  • Demonstrated success managing surveys and feedback processes.
  • Experience with conducting focus groups and other listening strategies.
  • Experience with crisis communication and reputation management is a plus.
  • Experience building and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders.

Strong written and oral communication skills. Ability to communicate in a way that creates clarity, simplifies messages and aligns with organizational strategy. Knowledge of communication channels and the ability to build effective communication and engagement strategies.

Must be a self-starter with the ability to independently identify opportunities, solutions and resolve challenges. Demonstrated ability to deliver impactful results. Requires an attitude that actively seeks out change, and embraces critical questioning, innovation, service and continuous improvement. Must understand how to navigate ambiguity, and act without having the total picture. Adaptable and flexible. Demonstrated professionalism and ethics, with the ability to earn credibility through integrity and transparency. Role model for service excellence. Ability to evaluate and improve upon existing processes and develop/implement new processes where appropriate. Must demonstrate ability to manage sensitive/confidential/proprietary information. Ability to work across an organization with excellent communication and customer service orientation. Ability to prioritize and communicate priorities in alignment with strategy.
