Responsibilities
The Risk Management and Patient Safety Specialist will be responsible for identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks for Mayo Clinic Arizona. Analyze patient safety reports, near misses, and adverse events to identify trends and provide recommendations for performance improvement. Collaborate with clinical teams, leadership, and other stakeholders to foster a culture of safety. Prepare and present reports on risk management and patient safety initiatives to key organizational stakeholders. Lead and facilitate comprehensive reviews to identify potential quality and safety improvement opportunities.
Provides overall support to the Risk Management and Patient Safety Manager for all activities and functions related to risk management. Assists the Risk Management and Patient Safety Manager in the overall development, implementation, coordination, and documentation of a clinical risk identification, management, reduction and error prevention program, including the performance of record reviews and staff investigations at times under the direction of Legal Counsel. Assumes direct responsibility for the Mayo Clinic in Arizona Incident Reporting Program. Serves as the coordinator for general liability, auto liability and property loss, damage and theft claims handling and processing. Independently performs full potential claims investigation and handling for general liability and property/auto claims, with assistance from Risk Management and Patient Safety Manager as required. Assumes direct responsibility, as assigned, for the Sentinel Event/Intensive Review process, including, but not limited to: SE/IR determination, investigations/interviews with staff, Root Cause Analysis organization, and action plan creation and follow-up. Provides risk management consultation to physicians, administration and allied staff. Assumes responsibility with the Risk Management and Patient Safety Manager for taking "on" and "off-hours" risk management "call" duties, via pager, as assigned by Risk Manager.
Engages in development of ongoing risk management and patient safety education for allied staff, consultant staff and residents. Assumes partial responsibility for the Patient Safety Executive Rounds at Mayo Clinic in Arizona with direction from organizational leadership, principally the Quality Management Services department. Coordinates, attends, and co-facilitates the Quality and Safety Summit Forums at Mayo Clinic in Arizona with direction from organizational leadership, principally the Quality Management Services department. Accountable to the Chair of Quality Management Services and the Risk Management and Patient Safety Manager for patient safety activities as assigned. Assists in the ongoing monitoring and coordination for all clinical contracts to ensure organizational compliance with regulatory and accrediting agencies. Upon request, assists the Chair of Quality Management Services and the Risk Management and Patient Safety Manager in administrative duties and assigned projects.
This Position is 50% Remote; must live withing driving distance of Mayo Clinic Campus

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required. Minimum three years of experience in a hospital or healthcare setting to include experience in risk management, operations management, patient relations, patient safety and/or quality management.Ability to problem-solve patient care issues, perform policy and procedure interpretation, and collaborate with various staff members at all levels of the organization. Strong presentation and report development skills. Evidence of active involvement in organizational and/or department committees, task forces, or performance improvement teams. Demonstrated and documented examples of ability to organize and analyze complex data and propose logical conclusions. Evidence of strict adherence to standards of confidentiality.Professional license or certification in clinical area preferred.

$100,484.80- $150,779.20/ year Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.

Candidate will participate in a 24/7 On-call rotation every 3 weeks. Normal business hours will be Monday-Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm.
