Responsibilities

Mayo Clinic is seeking a dedicated and experienced Administrator for Patient Safety to join our Quality team. This role is pivotal in ensuring the highest standards of patient safety and care across our facilities. The ideal candidate will oversee the development, implementation, and management of patient safety programs, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and high reliability standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as advisor and key subject matter expert in all aspects of patient safety.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive patient safety strategies and initiatives across all Mayo Clinic locations.
  • Monitor and analyze patient safety data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with clinical and administrative staff to promote a culture of safety and quality.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal patient safety regulations and standards.
  • Provide education and training on patient safety principles and practices to staff.
  • Supports executive leadership in developing and enhancing patient safety priorities and preparing regular updates on patient safety performance.

Provides overall administrative and operational direction for activities and functions related to quality, such as measurement and reporting, patient safety/sentinel events, patient affairs, accreditation and regulatory resources, customer relationship management (CRM), and service. Works collaboratively with physician leadership and administrative leadership and related committees as well as supporting departments and operational units. The Quality administrator occupies a unique leadership role within the organization. One of the successes of Mayo has been the collegiality between the Practice and Practice shared service. This partnership brings together the clinical practice and quality expertise necessary to achieve the Mayo Clinic Quality, Experience and Affordability strategic and operating plan. The practice and practice shared service leadership roles cannot be separated. 

The purpose of the partnership is: To translate the institutional vision to meaningful and effective operational responses. To bring an institutional perspective to daily decisions and to bring an quality and operational perspective and experience back to the institution. To see, initiate and organize opportunities to improve service and quality and to act as a catalyst for realizing these improvements. In this partnership, the Quality Administrator is expected: To act as a facilitator, champion and generator of new ideas and a mediator on difficult issues. To have adequate knowledge and perspective of Mayo Clinic practice and business operations to know when and where to acquire additional input and expertise To provide financial oversight and stewardship of quality resources.

This Position is Hybrid- 50% Remote; individual must live within driving distance to campus

Qualifications

Master’s degree in health-related discipline required. Minimum of five years progressive administrative leadership experience encompassing inpatient and outpatient operations, systems/processes and supervision. Operational experience must include demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with multiple disciplines (i.e., physician, scientist, administrative, supervisory, and allied health staff.) Must have demonstrated competencies in leadership, management, operations and communication.

Excellent written and verbal communication, change management, leadership, and operational skills required. High level of professional integrity and creativity required. Demonstrates expertise and skill in systems thinking and team dynamics, outcomes management, quality/continuous improvement philosophies and methodologies, clinical data assessment, clinical resource utilization analysis, risk management, and Joint Commission or other external regulatory requirements.

Preferred qualifications

Five years’ experience in patient safety or related field

In depth knowledge of patient safety regulations, standards and best practices.  

Certification in Patient safety (CPPS); or Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) preferred

$143,291.20- $214,988.80/ year; Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.

M-F, 7a-5pm with extended days and weekends as role requires. Candidate must reside within driving distance of a Mayo Clinic location in Rochester, MN; Phoenix, AZ or Jacksonville, FL. Occasional travel may be required to support all Mayo Clinic locations.
