Responsibilities
Reporting to the Vice Chair, External Relations, the Executive Director, Executive Leadership Administration partners with the Chief Development Officer and Development executive leaders to develop and implement strategies in alignment with Mayo Clinic’s mission and the department’s strategic business objectives. The role is responsible for enhancing internal organizational process, including implementation of the strategic plan priority efforts identified by and with the executive team. Works to orchestrate short-term and long-term planning, implementation and follow-up. Maintains a deep knowledge of departmental activities and strategic priorities, as well as factors pertinent to realizing those priorities. Identifies connections and brings knowledge to bear on issues under consideration by the CDO and executive leaders. Provides the CDO and executive leaders with unbiased and accurate information, analysis, consultation, and recommendations to support strategic and operational initiatives for the department. Convenes matrixed teams and leads multi-disciplinary professionals to carry out time-limited initiatives in support of department goals. This role provides leadership and supervision for highly sensitive projects, manages a wide range of issues and tracks/advances priority projects, and other chief-of-staff responsibilities. As needed and appropriate, serves as delegate and representative of the CDO and executive leaders. The role provides administrative leadership and strategic direction for the team managing Development engagements with Mayo Clinic executives and key leaders. Responsible for oversight of the team’s collaboration with the CDO, department colleagues, and institutional Executive Office to evaluate, plan, and implement strategic Mayo Clinic executive engagements and communications with and on behalf of Development.
Qualifications
Demonstrated strong administrative leadership and senior management expertise. Bachelor’s degree and seven to ten years of experience to include the following areas of expertise: healthcare, internal and external communications, corporate communications, fundraising, and leadership. A Master’s is preferred in business, marketing, communications, health care administration or a related field.
Demonstrated success in developing, implementing and applying comprehensive planning strategies and developing effective systems to manage complex, detailed processes. Project management expertise with a proven record of performance driven results. Strategic thinking and collaboration in partnership with departmental leadership are essential. Skilled at identifying and adapting to unique situational needs, integrating both strategic and tactical expertise, as well as intellectual and emotional intelligence. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple work streams and respond rapidly to competing demands and prioritize needs on an ongoing basis. Demonstrated success in building collaborative, cross-functional relationships with the highest level of administrative leadership. Strong executive presence, superior leadership, organizational, analytical, oral and written communications, presentation, interpersonal skills to facilitate effective relationships internal and external of Mayo Clinic. Active listener who demonstrates a learning orientation and a consultative/coaching approach. Must possess political savvy, ability to function effectively in the face of ambiguity and excellent relationship-building skills. Must demonstrate ability to work effectively in consensus-style operation that expects and promotes teamwork. Ability to appropriately handle sensitive and/or proprietary information. Ability to independently set priorities, plan, organize, coordinate and direct multiple concurrent projects and complex tasks, coupled with the ability to develop and move strategic agendas forward and drive a high volume of work to completion.
Strong leadership and problem-solving skills as well as demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a complex organization. Incumbents will have demonstrated competencies in strategic and operational planning and project management. Requires excellent decision-making and judgment capabilities. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to develop and move projects forward with a high degree of independence and autonomy. Seasoned judgment, ability to make decisions, justify recommendations, and be responsive and clear with partners and colleagues. A task-oriented style with focus on achieving clear and ambitious short- and long-term goals. Demonstrated ability to meet multiple deadlines and manage multiple priorities by maintaining a high level of organization. Must possess the ability to inspire trust and confidence, and communicate effectively with internal and external audiences. The ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality is essential. Active listener who demonstrates a learning orientation and a consultative/coaching approach.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in philanthropy at a complex organization preferred.
Experience partnering with senior/executive leaders preferred.
