Responsibilities
The HME Specialist III - Cosmetologist is an advanced role within the Specialists opportunities with the Mayo Clinic Stores. Able to perform skillsets independently and act as a trainer and mentor to new and existing team members. Able to help patients with product selection and training of home medical equipment and/or supplies in accordance with provider prescriptions. Gathers registration and insurance information accurately and efficiently, and processes information for payment according to payer requirements. Eager to learn new products to enhance service line(s). May assist in training for insurance, medicare regulations, and billing error resolution. Ability to work with multiple departments/areas, multiple product lines and/or store locations. Shows ambition to take on new work or tasks within the team. Effectively identifies and resolves prescription issues with clear communication to referral sources. Ability to work on or identify projects to create efficiencies, standardization, or understanding DME needs of the clinical practice. Handles private patient information in a compliant and confidential manner and mentors’ others in doing so. Assists with maintaining store inventory including inventory cycle counts and perpetual inventory. Completes re-occurring tasks to maintain store appearance and visual merchandising, control inventory levels, locate serialized assets, reduce aged revenue, and decrease denials. Ability to use HDMS reports for tasks, data analysis, store revenue goals, and resolving discrepancies. Performs duties of the job in a manner that is attentive to age and ability considerations of the patient. May provide patients with mobility aides, breast pumps, CPAP machines and supplies, over the counter compression or braces training, ostomy supplies, urology supplies, wound care supplies and oxygen services, depending on the store location. Completes additional training for enhanced product knowledge and custom processes. Actively participates in work groups and partners with leadership to implement changes. This position may be assigned specific job duties to fulfill needs of the store in addition to normal day to day workload.
Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent. Experience as an HME Specialist and proven ability to completely perform the duties of the role or comparable work equivalence. Effectively reads, writes, speaks and understand English. Able to learn technical tasks and follow written and verbal directions. Comfortable utilizing technology, problem solving and efficient with software applications.
Exceptional customer service and communication skills with high level of professionalism and ability to have crucial conversations. Proven ability to multi-task and make good decisions affecting patient care and billing. Must be able to work independently. Advanced knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid and/or private insurance billing with attention to detail. Physical and mental stamina to be able to withstand what can often be a fast-paced environment; may be on feet or sitting 90-100% of the time. Must be able to tolerate repetitive hand motion. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
Preferred experience working with customers with hair loss, alopecia, and wigs in a licensed salon environment. Knowledgeable with wig care, wig repairs, wig alterations, and wig accessories. Must be currently licensed and maintain a license in the state of Minnesota by the Board of Cosmetology.
For locations requiring driving a company vehicle, must have a valid driver's license and a clean driving record where applicable.
