Responsibilities
The Information Attendant serves as a key frontline representative at the Mayo Clinic Campus, ensuring a professional, welcoming experience for Patients, Visitors, and staff. This role involves greeting and assisting individuals with courtesy while maintaining confidentiality and adhering to HIPAA and Mayo Clinic policies. Attendants provide accurate wayfinding support, access and print Patient Appointment Guides (PAGs), Verify patient information, and manage requests for wheelchair transport, oxygen, and other needs using the EPIC system. Responsibilities also include placing patients in wheelchairs and escorting them to safe locations for pickup or further care. They report environmental concerns such as spills to help maintain a clean and safe facility and are trained to respond appropriately in emergencies, including calling codes and staying calm under pressure.
Attendants also answer general questions related to video appointments, scheduling, Mayo Clinic facilities, and local resources. This includes providing information about area events, lodging, transportation, dining, and other visitor services. Additional responsibilities include managing coat check and luggage services, coordinating the return or shipment of lost and found items and facilitating the return of borrowed medical equipment such as oximeters, Holter monitors, and blood pressure cuffs. Attendants restock brochures and supplies, use communication systems for time-sensitive messaging, and provide basic comfort assistance to patients and visitors. They also assist with onboarding new staff, participating in department huddles and sharing relevant updates to support team awareness and continuous improvement. The information attendant carries out all aspects of the job while displaying good judgment and problem-solving skills and assumes the responsibility of self-development within the role.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent is required. Previous experience in a hospital, clinical, or customer-focused setting is preferred. Must be able to work independently and demonstrate adaptability in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
This role requires the physical ability to bend, lift, and carry up to 50 pounds, as well as the stamina to stand or walk for extended periods. Strong communication, telephone, and interpersonal skills are essential for interacting effectively with patients, visitors, and staff. Emotional resilience and a compassionate, respectful approach are key, as this position plays a vital role in delivering a positive experience for all.
This position may include varied hours, including days, evenings, weekends and holidays with rotating days off. Basic computer skills are essential.
