ResponsibilitiesThe Plan, Design and Architecture Unit within EIS Service Management is seeking an IT Cloud Architect to serve as a champion for cloud adoption within Mayo Clinic, providing architectural guidance for Gen AI, public (GCP, Azure, AWS), and private cloud strategies.
The IT Cloud Architect may serve as a change advocate for cloud adoption, lead or coordinate discussions relative to future cloud architecture direction, lead cloud computing efforts and strategies. Can communicate pros and cons objectively. Supports executive vision for cloud and may oversee aspects of adoption and governance processes. Contributes to the development of a cloud strategy and adoption. Contributes to the architectural vision for cloud across business and technical dimensions. May design and deploy cloud reference architecture. May direct aspects of cloud brokering and governance across specific aspects of IT and the business. Routinely collaborates with engineers, business stakeholders, security, legal, and finance departments regarding cloud decisions and direction. Builds strong relationships across the organization, specifically with functional architects in each area, to influence them towards making changes necessary for cloud. May design, build, facilitate, and direct cloud initiatives on multiple fronts, including participating in the CCOE. Contributes to the processes by which IT and business staff choose cloud computing as the deployment model for different applications and use cases, including the reasons why some applications should use cloud computing and others shouldn’t. May contribute to the criteria for evaluating, comparing, and selecting cloud providers. May collaborate with procurement to assess vendor viability and risk. May determine, standardize, and / or convey strategic provider investments to the rest of the organization. May design guidance that describes best practices for cloud system design, infrastructure integrations, application development practices and application runtime principles. May collaborate with security to produce a risk mitigation matrix for overcoming common cloud risks and pitfalls, including a cloud exit strategy for each provider or application. May coordinate with the finance team to determine the most appropriate financial models for each cloud service that the organization procures. May determine, refine, review, and present costing estimates, total cost of ownership (TCO) and funding source. Contributes to the development of cloud decision models. Contributes to cloud governance, including guidelines, policies, and guardrails, in collaboration with Enterprise Architects and/or the ARB. May design comprehensive enterprise management processes, tools, integrations, and procedures to run the cloud systems, including other critical IT stakeholders in the design process. Manages the cloud change control process. May correlate cloud costs to business KPIs to manage spending in respect to the organization’s return on investment (ROI). May drive cost optimization by monitoring utilization and capacity metrics. May drive spend accountability towards cloud consumers, and provides them with resources to create forecasts, monitor costs and pursue optimization opportunities.

QualificationsThe idea candidate will have demonstrated experience with GCP and Azure cloud technologies and services (7+ years).
Bachelor’s degree with 7+ years' demonstrated technical experience and 3 years of demonstrated leadership experience, or Associate’s degree with 9 years’ experience and 3 years of demonstrated leadership experience, or HS/GED with 11 years of experience and 3 years of demonstrated leadership experience in a large, complex organization like Mayo Clinic may be considered in lieu of the degree. Applies advanced knowledge of a particular field of specialization to the completion of highly complex assignments. Involves medium to high level of cross-product exposure and understanding. Involved in multiple medium to large sized projects. Serves as an individual contributor, consultant to peers and provides indirect leadership. Functions with a high degree of autonomy; generally, requires little or no guidance. Works as a team lead or internal consultant. Viewed as an expert and provides knowledge and counsel to others. Certification in cloud engineering is required within 12-24 months.
