Responsibilities

Provides managerial direction to the areas of payroll and timekeeping.  Responsible for accurate and timely processing of payroll for 70,000+ employees while providing oversight to regulatory compliance and government reporting mandates.  Responds to customer requests and follows up on problems or concerns.  Ensures high level of customer support and administrative efficiency in areas supervised.  Works cooperatively with other HR units to deliver high quality service to employees and managers.

The Manager - Payroll is primarily responsible for the management of staff, HR programs, and overall functioning of the work area/unit. The purpose of the role is to lead HR operations, programs and teams. This may include general oversight of assigned team(s) or programs, workforce planning, staff guidance, workload analysis, recruitment of well qualified staff, training, mentorship and performance management. The Manager - Payroll will serve as an expert/SME and is a resource to the department regarding complex matters. Partners with other CoE leaders to execute operational goals, ensures effective and efficient operations, maintains high standards for service and operational excellence, and identifies opportunities for continuous improvement. Partners with customers and stakeholders to meet business needs. Leverages team member’s strength, capabilities, and experiences to deliver on strategic priorities. Creates innovative solutions using a high degree of ingenuity, creativity, and advanced tools, technologies, and techniques. Monitors resource allocations and takes corrective measures to ensure alignment with annual budget and operating plan. Uses effective project management skills and may lead large projects. Maintains knowledge of trends and HR issues, applies best practice principles to support CoE, and provides subject matter expertise and leadership where assigned.

*This position is 100% remote work. Individual may live anywhere in the US.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree with eight years of applicable accounting or finance experience is required. Five years of management or leadership experience is required. Masters degree in business related field or, a CPA (active or inactive) preferred.


Has an expert understanding of accounting and finance principles and practices. Possesses and applies knowledge of institutional, clinical, financial and administrative systems and processes to achieve departmental priorities. Has solid knowledge of Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Shows attention to detail, accuracy and ability to manage and prioritize resources; possesses professional skepticism. Exhibits a customer-service orientation; anticipates, understands and addresses customer needs in a timely manner. Working knowledge of large accounting and/or grant management systems. Ability to establish a productive team-based work environment and collaborate effectively across multiple sites. Demonstrable communication and presentation skills. Ability to lead or direct multiple complex projects and activities in an ambiguous environment. Possess initiative, analytical skills, and an ability to elicit a high level of productivity.

$102,772.80 - $143,873.60 / year. Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.
