Responsibilities

The National Director - Payer Relations is responsible for:

  • Demonstrated success working with health plans both regionally and nationally.
  • Cultivated relationships through strategic partnerships.
  • Ability to think strategically with a consultative needs approach when contracting on behalf of MCL.
  • Fostered and maintained relationships with key stakeholders within payers to drive market access.
  • Stay current on the evolving healthcare landscape and market access trends to inform strategy and decision making.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans to optimize market access and reimbursement for MCL’s products.
  • Ability to network across a broad internal and external matrix organization and the skills necessary to form strong, productive partnerships and build consensus on market access strategies.
  • Strong collaboration skills: demonstrated ability to influence without direct management authority.
  • Strong contract language knowledge and negotiations experience to facilitate legal risk mitigation and minimize financial impact of utilization management related denials. 
  • Strong rate negotiation skills with proven success.
  • Conducts market research and analysis to identify market access trends and opportunities.
  • Supports the sales region with market access enablement and growth opportunities; operate as a subject matter expert on market access and reimbursement strategies, providing insights and recommendations to inform business decisions.
  • Continuously evaluate and identify opportunities to improve market access strategies and processes.
  • Educate internal teams on market access policies and strategies.
  • Monitor and analyze market access policies and regulations to anticipate potential challenges and develop contingency plans.
  • Represent Mayo Clinic Laboratories at industry conferences and meetings to enhance the company's market access presence and network.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and company policies. Provide leadership and guidance to internal stakeholders, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement to ensure alignment and support for market access strategies.
  • Strong executive presentation and communication skills - with exceptional aptitude and ability to communicate technical concepts to a wide range of stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • A Master's degree in business, healthcare or other related field required and 10 years of payer market management experience with progressive responsibilities.
  • In lieu of a Master's degree, a Juris Doctor degree will be accepted, or a bachelor's degree in business, finance or a related field plus twelve years of payer market management experience with progressive responsibilities.
  • Must have legal contract structure, content and health insurance marketplace experience.
  • Requires a broad experience and proven knowledge of corporate benefit options, insurance industry standards, payer payment methodologies, managed care concepts, health care finance fundamentals, medical terminology, third party billing, payment, laboratory science and collection principles.
  • Must have superior skills in leadership, relationship management, verbal and written communications, organization, decision making and the ability to work collaboratively with multiple disciplines internal and external to the organization.
  • Need strong skills in managing multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Positive attitude and strong persuasive skills needed. Direct reports will include other department personnel.

Experience, and tenure may be considered when job offers are extended. The salary range is $152,027.20 - $228,072/year.
