Responsibilities
The Radiation Oncology Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will work closely with consultant MDs, residents, APPs, and nurses to provide oncologic care to patients in Radiation Oncology.
The Radiation Oncology APP will have an opportunity for both collaborative and independent practice. Roles include comprehensive assessment and diagnosis, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescription of pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies, comprehensive patient education, and psychosocial support of the patient and family experiencing cancer. Patient population primarily GI cancer, but may help cross cover for various other malignancies.
APPs in Radiation Oncology can grow professionally through quality improvement projects, research, committee work, precepting students, and teaching in the Mayo Clinic Health Sciences radiation therapy program. There are numerous educational opportunities within the department, including opportunity to apply for a Career Development award which provides limited tenure protected time for completion of scholarly work.
Qualifications
Nurse Practitioner: Masters prepared graduate of an accredited school of nursing and Nurse Practitioner program. Current Minnesota RN and APRN license and certification as an FNP, ANP or ACNP. DNP preferred.
Physician Assistant: Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program with current PA certification by NCCPA and registration as a PA by the Minnesota State Board of Medical Practice.
BLS certification required. Must be eligible for DEA registration.
Additional Qualifications:
Applicants should have a very strong interest in oncology. Strong written and oral communication skills are required and must have demonstrated skill in working collaboratively with all members of the healthcare team.
