Location: Gonda 10 East, Medical Oncology Cancer Treatment which has 53 private spaces for medication administration.
As a registered nurse (RN) in this collaborative role, you'll be an integral part of a dedicated team, administering cutting-edge treatments like chemotherapeutic agents, immunotherapy, and hormonal injections. You'll work closely with colleagues on liver-directed therapy, innovative treatments, research trials, cancer prevention vaccines, and assisting surgeons with intratumoral cancer procedures. Our on-site lab for venous collection allows you to collect samples from oncology and hematology patients using Ports and PICC lines, all while working alongside a supportive team. This position offers numerous opportunities to enhance your technical skills by placing peripheral IVs in a diverse patient population. Additionally, you'll provide vital educational reinforcement, therapeutic communication, and emotional reassurance in the outpatient setting. This fast-paced, team-oriented environment fosters collaboration and allows you to practice at the top of your scope, making a real difference in patients' lives every day.
The primary role of the registered nurse (RN) in this position is administration of chemotherapeutic agents and patient education in the outpatient setting.
The registered nurse (RN) is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care. The role requires autonomy, critical thinking and problem solving to facilitate patient care. The RN supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family. The RN will function within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, which includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients. The ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice provide a basis for the practice of the RN. The RN provides leadership through activities such as preceptor role, informal and formal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts. The RN delegates patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability and availability of resources. The RN possesses excellent communication skills; is skillful in mentoring and teaching; and may participate on committees or projects.
This role is eligible for TN sponsorship. Successful sponsorship will require state licensure and completion of the VisaScreen or equivalent certification.
QualificationsStudent or graduate of an accredited, or those in the candidacy process, associate, or diploma nursing program, as recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA). If graduated from a nursing program that was not accredited by ACEN, CCNE, or NLN CNEA, at least one year of RN experience in an applicable care setting is required.
All entry-level associate degree registered nurses with a RN start date of April 1, 2020 and after must provide documented evidence of program completion of the baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program within five years from the last day of the month of the RN start date.
All entry-level associate degree registered nurses with a RN start date prior to April 1, 2020 must provide documented evidence of program completion of the baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program as stipulated by the degree requirement program in place at time of hire.
Additional Qualifications:
One year of RN experience in an applicable care setting or one year of current LPN experience at Mayo Clinic is preferred.
A minimum of 1 year experience with administration of chemotherapeutic agents within the last 5 years is preferred. Demonstrated leadership, effective communicator, proficient computer skills, and excellent critical thinking skills required. Recent experience and knowledge of oncology nursing preferred. Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting.
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written). Experience working in a team environment. Computer skills required, prior experience with electronic medical record systems preferred. Ability to work flexible hours, which may include days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends and on-call. Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting. Demonstrated leadership, effective communicator, and excellent critical thinking skills.

Must obtain prior to start date:
Current RN license by applicable state requirements.
Basic Cardiac Life Support for healthcare providers- BCLS – certificate of course completion required and must not expire within 3 months after start date. A scanned copy of the certificate of completion or transcripts, including your full name, must be attached to your profile to be considered.
