Responsibilities
The Brain Adaptation and Stimulation lab (https://www.mayo.edu/research/labs/brain-adaptation-stimulation/) has a postdoctoral position available to lead multidisciplinary research projects and work closely with the lab PI Brian Lundstrom and engineers/collaborators Tom Richner and Ben Brinkmann. The candidate would focus on research using magnetoencephalography (MEG) to explore cortical excitability, connectivity, effects of brain stimulation, or other MEG-related projects. Mayo Clinic has a new state-of-the-art MEG facility, which provides clinical studies for localization of epileptiform discharges and mapping of eloquent cortex.
Primary goals of the lab include assessing and modulating neural excitability by using stimulation and developing a theoretical framework to understand excitability. Current research areas center around human neurophysiology and epilepsy pathophysiology and include invasive electrodes, human single unit recordings, invasive and noninvasive brain stimulation, fractional dynamics, and computational modeling.
Candidates should hold a Ph.D. degree or equivalent in physical science, neuroscience, biophysics, biomedical engineering, or similar and have a strong background in signal processing and/or computational methodologies as well as excellent programming skills (e.g. MatLab and/or Python). Successful candidates will lead projects and publishing efforts. Experience with MEG or HD-EEG is an advantage. Research or clinical experience in epilepsy is an advantage, but not required.
A Research Fellow at Mayo Clinic is a temporary position intended to provide training and education in research. Individuals will train in the research program of a Mayo Clinic principal investigator. Qualified individuals will demonstrate the potential for research as evidenced by their training and peer-reviewed publications and should become competitive for national research grants. Proof of English proficiency is required for J-1 Research Fellows or Senior Research Fellows sponsored by Mayo Clinic.
