Responsibilities
The Electron Microscopy Core is a full-service laboratory that provides technical support to physicians, scientists, and researchers both within and outside the Mayo Clinic enterprise.
The Electron Microscopy Lab is seeking a technologist with experience in electron microscopy and a background in health sciences to join our Electron Microscopy (EM) team. The individual will be responsible for providing electron microscopy technical services in support of pathologists for clinical testing.
The EM technologist works with clinical/patient tissue and specimens submitted by research laboratories. The position will include a variety of laboratory related tasks which may include:
- Utilizing and helping maintain specialized laboratory equipment
- Scoping tissues on the electron microscope for ultrastructural indicators of disease and reporting to Mayo pathologists, researchers, and other laboratory personnel.
- Verifying accuracy of records and maintaining appropriate documentation
- Tissue processing, embedding, and sectioning
Specialized training will be provided within the laboratory.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated electron microscopy experience and working successfully in a laboratory setting. The candidate should be highly organized, able to multi-task and work closely with others in a fast-paced and changing environment.

The ideal applicant will be expected to acquire technical competency in specific laboratory procedures and to consistently follow established laboratory protocols per regulatory requirements. A commitment of 3 or more years is preferred.
Qualifications
Requires bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or other relevant science with 4 years of research laboratory experience. Master's degree in biology, chemistry, or other relevant science preferred.
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
- Education: Master’s degree in relevant discipline is preferred.
- Experience: Electron microscopy preferred.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in electron miscopy techniques including processing, microtomy, and microscopy.
- Personal Attributes: Strong organizational skills, ability to work independently and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, high-throughput environment. Attention to detail and ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
Note: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position; also, Mayo Clinic does not participate in the F-1 OPT STEM extension program.
