We are pleased to announce that in collaboration with Minnesota West Community and Technical College and Rochester Community Technical College (RCTC), Mayo Clinic is offering a Sterile Processing Tech Apprenticeship. This customized, hands-on experience paves the way for your success in Surgical Services. Earn your degree in Surgical Technology and a paycheck as an apprentice at Mayo Clinic. Through the MN Dual Pipeline grant, your educational fees will be covered, if accepted into the program.

- Join the Mayo Clinic team as a Sterile Processing Tech Apprentice
Once admitted, you will receive financial compensation for one year of tuition, books, and fees ($6,500 - $7,200 value)
The Sterile Processing Technician (SPT) is responsible for performing delegated activities to support the operating room team in the care of the surgical patient. Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager and Core Supervisor, the Sterile Processing Technician prepares and delivers medical/surgical supplies, instruments and equipment for surgical procedures. The Sterile Processing Technician cleans, packages, and processes surgical equipment and instrumentation, as well as maintains inventory and storage of supplies in the core. The SPT manages multiple computer applications to assist with sterilization tracking and processes. Responsible to operate and troubleshoot power equipment to process instruments (i.e. autoclaves, washer disinfector, ultrasonic cleaners). Employee may be required to drive on an occasional basis as part of performing their job responsibilities.
Position location may be at Saint Mary's Campus or Methodist Campus based on position offered.
Qualifications
High School graduate or GED. A minimum of a two-year commitment is needed for this position.
Additional Qualifications
Prefer two years of experience in the handling and sterilization processing of surgical/medical/dental instrumentation within the past four years, or vocational certificate as Central Service Technician or Patient Care Assistant within the last two years. Alternatively, at least two years of experience as a Central Service Technician or Patient Care Assistant in an acute care setting within the last five years. Prefer knowledge of medical terminology. Adapts to unpredictable situations within the perioperative setting. Proven ability to communicate with a variety of people in a direct, empathetic, and articulate manner. Demonstrated patient-centered and customer focused communication skills. Frequent lifting/carrying of 25 pounds or more, with occasional work above shoulder level.
License or Certification
Candidates hired into the apprenticeship opportunity will be exempt (not required) to obtain the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) within 18 months of hire. If candidate post offer acceptance or hire does not fulfill requirements of apprenticeship program, they will be required to obtain HSPA CRCST certification within 18 months.
