Responsibilities

The Summer III performs delegated tasks of direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). The designated tasks are those which have been taught in the academic programs and/or orientation, and where the individual has demonstrated competence to a designated RN. The functions are those limited by law to unlicensed personnel.

Once accepted into the Summer III Nursing Internship program, student interns will be required to apply for a Summer Intern Course at a University or College within Minnesota for the duration of the internship in order to participate in the SNI Program (see scope of practice).

Job Qualifications:

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING BASIC REQUIREMENTS THOROUGHLY. INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED FOR CONSIDERATION. 

PLEASE NOTE: As part of the selection process, you will participate in an OnDemand (pre-recorded) interview that you can complete at your convenience. You will be sent an email with a link to our HireVue OnDemand system. There will be 2 questions that you will be asked to record answers for. There will be a deadline to complete this interview.

Offers will be extended no sooner than February 3, 2025.

By start date, applicants must have successfully completed one of the following:

The Junior Year of an accredited baccalaureate nursing program, as recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN- formerly NLN) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). To be considered for this role, candidates must be graduating between December 2025 and June 2026 (Junior or Senior of Nursing School OR should have completed the third semester of nursing curriculum at Rochester Community and Technical College prior to the Summer III start date.

The Summer III Employment Opportunity will begin on 6/2/2025, and end on 8/8/2025. Applicants MUST BE ABLE TO COMPLETE TEN CONSECUTIVE WEEKS OF EMPLOYMENT.

Current in basic life support (BCLS) from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association (must not expire during the duration of the internship).

Once accepted into the Summer III Nursing Internship program, student interns will be required to apply for a Summer Intern Course at a University or College within Minnesota for the duration of the internship in order to participate in the Summer III Program (information will be provided to selected candidates upon offer acceptance).

COVER LETTERS AND RECOMMENDATION LETTERS ARE NOT REQUIRED AND WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED DURING THE SCREENING PROCESS. NO SCHEDULED INTERVIEWS WILL BE REQUIRED.

DO NOT SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION UNLESS YOU HAVE ATTACHED ALL OF THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTS:

1.  BASIC LIFE SUPPORT (BLS)/CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION (CPR) CERTIFICATION. Applicants must attach proof of completion.  We will only accept certificates of course completion from the following providers:

  • American Heart Association (Title: BLS for Healthcare Providers)
  • Red Cross (Title: CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers OR BLS for Healthcare Providers)
  • Military Training Network

Note:  If your card is set to expire during the duration of the internship, you must renew your card prior to the first day of employment (6/2/2025).

2.  RESUME. The resume (can be longer than one page) should highlight the following: educational background (degree and anticipated graduation date), cumulative GPA, paid employment history, awards/honors, and volunteer activities including community involvement, committee involvement, student nurse association, and/or professional organizations. 

In preparation for your OnDemand interview, please be prepared to submit a one page word document numbered 1-10 using the below list of Department options.  number being your highest preference.

Qualifications

The completion of the junior year of a baccalaureate nursing program, or completion of the third semester of nursing at Rochester Community & Technical College. Successful experiences in clinical areas as described in instructor references to perform the functions which are within this job description. Able to complete ten consecutive weeks of employment. 


Able to adapt to unpredictable situations within the patient care setting and deal with stress caused by the care of patients. Maintains current Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers from one of the following programs: American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
