Responsibilities
Reporting directly to the new Chief Communications Officer, the Vice Chair of Communications - Core Portfolios leads the advancement of the new communications framework, with a particular focus on digital communications and health technology. As a critical driver of digital AI adoption and transformative innovations, this role integrates forward-thinking approaches to effectively engage both existing and emerging populations. This leader will also work to connect internal, external, and international partners, promoting a holistic view that fosters collaboration and advances digital communication practices. This leadership is pivotal in uniting diverse teams to navigate and capitalize on digital transformation opportunities within the organization.
The Vice Chair, Communications – Core Portfolios is responsible for the development of the vision and performance for their function, site or strategic priority. The Vice Chair is an experienced professional who provides thought leadership, strategic direction, and confidence to guide organizational leaders. This leader must earn the trust and credibility of leadership and collaboratively build and execute actionable strategies. They serve in a senior advisory role to clients across Mayo Clinic. Drives excellence in financial management, communication (verbal, written and presentations), business and strategic planning, performance monitoring and reporting. Additional responsibilities include: Strategic planning and implementation, ensuring effective and efficient management of resources including staff, agencies, contractors, and vendors; Developing and retaining relationships with key internal and external stakeholders and influencers; Leading a team by establishing clear objectives, driving alignment to team goals and providing effective performance accountability and management; Providing counsel and guidance to motivate staff to ensure a strong level of engagement; Establishing and managing a budget to align to priorities; Working collaboratively in a matrix organization to drive results in support of organization strategies.
The Vice Chair will need to demonstrate agility to quickly adapt or evolve in response to changing circumstances, breaking down barriers to meet changing business needs, advancements, or technologies. The Vice chair is responsible for ensuring that all services and work delivered are done in consideration of enterprise, and Mayo Clinic campus nuances.
Qualifications
Requires a master’s degree in a related field plus 10 years of relevant work experience; or a bachelor's degree in a related field plus 12 years of relevant work experience. Strong written and oral communication skills. Ability to communicate in a way that creates clarity, simplifies messages, and aligns with organizational strategy. Knowledge of channels for communication and the ability to build effective communication and engagement strategies.
Must be a self-starter with the ability to independently identify opportunities, solutions and resolve challenges. Demonstrated ability to deliver impactful results. Requires an attitude that actively seeks out change, embraces critical questioning, innovation, service and continuous improvement. Must understand how to deal with and navigate ambiguity, and act without having the total picture. Adaptable or flexible. Demonstrated professionalism and ethics, with ability to earn credibility through integrity and transparency. Role models service excellence. Motivates others by being present, engaged, attentive, invites diverse perspectives, demonstrates and inspires a collaborative spirit.

Must possess strong leadership, business, analytical, oral and written communication, presentation skills, and superior interpersonal skills to facilitate effective relationships both within and outside of Mayo Clinic.
Successful track record to work effectively in a complex, consensus environment that expects and promotes teamwork. Strong strategic judgment. Ability to evaluate and improve upon existing processes and develop/implement new processes where appropriate. Must demonstrate ability to handle sensitive/confidential/proprietary information.
Experience in driving change by influencing senior executives, making recommendations to drive growth or improve ROI, and/or leading implementation of process-based initiatives. High degree of competency in data, analytics, financial analysis and/or directly comparable quantitative skillset. Has a desire to learn and champion agile methodologies, including use of appropriate technologies and leading behavior change by example to create empowered, client-centered teams and solutions.
Systems thinker with long term desire to serve in executive leadership capacity. Solid organizational and project management skills. Meets deadlines with enthusiasm and confidence. Proactively identifies and mitigates risk with meticulous project planning and creative solutions.
