Responsibilities
The International Medicine Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant (NP/PA) position will be new for Mayo Clinic Arizona, joining the Division of General Internal Medicine where most international patients begin their journey at Mayo Clinic. This unique role offers the opportunity to provide exceptional care to patients from other countries and diverse cultural backgrounds while also contributing to the development and expansion of our clinical programs. This individual will work in collaboration with physicians and other health care professionals to provide health care across the continuum of care for international patients. The ideal candidate should possess a genuine passion for delivering comprehensive medical services and thrive in a dynamic, global healthcare environment.
Responsibilities: The International Medicine NP/PA will be at the forefront of delivering high-quality care to our international patient population. Their responsibilities will include:
- Patient Care Coordination: Take ownership of the medical care for international patients, working collaboratively with healthcare providers before, during, and after episodes of care to bridge gaps in multidisciplinary care and ensure seamless coordination of their healthcare journey. Facilitate holistic patient-centered care through effective communication and collaboration.
- Clinical Services: Provide comprehensive clinical services, ranging from pre-visit intake assessments to on-site episodic care for patients and their companions. Address medical concerns and manage health care needs throughout the patient's stay. The provision of care includes, but is not limited to comprehensive assessment, ordering, conducting, and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescription of pharmacological agents and treatments, and non-pharmacological therapies.
- Inpatient Follow-up and Discharge Planning: Occasionally, assist inpatient follow-up and discharge planning, including arranging follow-up appointments, coordinating durable medical equipment (DME), and ensuring a smooth transition from hospital care to outpatient settings.
- Practice Redesign and Growth: Contribute to the growth and enhancement of our International Medicine practice. Participate in practice redesign initiatives, offering insights and recommendations to optimize patient care experiences.
- Scholarly Interests: Embrace opportunities for scholarly pursuits, staying up to date with the latest advancements in international healthcare, and sharing their knowledge within the team and broader medical community.
Qualifications

Family (FNP), Adult or Adult Gerontology Nurse Practitioner ONLY:
- Must be a graduate of an accredited university.
- Must be licensed or eligible to practice as an CNP in the State of Arizona. Must have national certification.
- FNP by an approved certifying organization
- Acute Care certified NPs will not be considered.
Physician Assistant:
- Must be a graduate of an accredited university. NCCPA certification required.
- Must be licensed/certified or eligible to practice as PA in the State of Arizona.
Additional Qualifications:
- At least three years of clinical experience is required. Additional consideration will be given to those with ambulatory practice experience, experience in International Medicine and those who are bilingual.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated leadership ability.
- Flexibility to adjust schedule to meet patient and staff needs.
- Ability to manage time and stress effectively and adapt to unpredictable situations within the patient care setting.
- Strong computer skills in an Electronic Medical Record preferred.
License or Certification:
- DEA required
- BLS is required.
- American Heart Association or American Red Cross only acceptable.

Schedule Details
Standard operating hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Furthermore, a certain degree of adaptability is maintained to accommodate occasional scheduling modifications, ensuring seamless communication with international patients residing across various time zones.
