Responsibilities

Independently sets up and performs experiments and procedures in support of lab goals and grant commitments (e.g. assays, cell/tissue culture, animal studies, etc.). Contributes to the planning, design and modification of studies and experiments in the research lab setting. Monitors results, reports unusual outcomes and suggests modifications. Collects, enters, summarizes, and analyzes data. May oversee and assist with the training of residents, fellows and temporary lab personnel in lab techniques. Works with minimal supervision and performs assignments independently as discussed and approved by Principal Investigator.

Additional Information:

Receives direction from Principal Investigator, Supervisor, and senior lab personnel and works with minimal supervision. Works cooperatively with other research staff in own and related labs. Interacts with vendors of supplies and equipment and personnel from various departments within Mayo such as Research Administrative Services, Medical Graphics, Engineering, Facilities, Accounting, etc. 

Dr. Mary Ellen Koran's lab at Mayo Clinic is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Senior Research Technologist to join our growing, dynamic team. Our lab specializes in conducting large-scale imaging genetic studies in Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) to 1) identify novel therapeutic targets and 2) inform precision medicine strategies in AD. We leverage large-scale positron emission tomography (PET) data and advanced imaging analysis tools, including deep learning/machine learning/artificial intelligence, to create phenotypes closer to disease etiology for our genetic studies. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking research aimed at understanding and combating this debilitating condition.

The ideal candidate would be able to independently set up and perform experiments and procedures in support of lab goals and grant commitments (e.g. computational imaging analysis; data extraction, transformation, cleaning, and visualization (including leveraging deep learning/machine learning techniques); and genetic analyses; less likely to include assays, cell/tissue culture, animal studies, etc.). The ideal candidate would be highly motivated to write publications (2-3 per year) and assist with grant writing. 

Contributes to the planning, design and modification of studies and experiments in the research lab setting. Monitors results, reports unusual outcomes and suggests modifications. Collects, enters, summarizes, and analyzes data. May oversee and assist with the training of residents, fellows and temporary lab personnel in lab techniques. Works with minimal supervision and performs assignments independently as discussed and approved by Principal Investigator. 



Qualifications

Requires bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or other relevant science with 4 years of research laboratory experience. 
Master's degree in biology, chemistry, or other relevant science preferred.

Preferred Experience and Qualifications: 

Demonstrated abilities in computer science, including expertise in imaging analysis, genetics analyses, MatLab, R, Python, Google Cloud Platform, bash scripting, experimental procedures, statistical analysis techniques, development of experiments, troubleshooting.

Demonstrated academic writing and presentation skills. 

Ability to work independently and with a variety of people at all levels both within and outside of the institution.

$64,500.80 - $96,824.00 Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.
