The Department of Management Engineering & Internal Consulting (ME&IC) has approximately 200 employees who are a part of a vibrant, multidisciplinary team, focused on improving processes, quality, and outcomes. ME&IC uses robust systems, processes, and management engineering tools and methodologies, strategic management frameworks and advanced project management approaches to improve healthcare at Mayo Clinic. ME&IC has consistently been a key partner in the design, development and execution of Mayo Clinic’s strategic priorities, core operational systems and transformation programs. Professional Development

Your relationship with Management Engineering & Internal Consulting (ME&IC) will begin with a formal onboarding and mentoring program. This program provides you the opportunity to learn from Mayo-experienced engineers, project managers, and other members of our team. You will also continue to develop and refine core skills through our internal professional development program. Sample courses include Internal Consulting, Change Management, Facilitation, Systems Thinking, Decision Support and Applied Analytics, and Problem Solving. Additionally, our staff is encouraged to publish and present their work at national and regional conferences, providing opportunities to learn and share at the same time.

Career Advancement

ME&IC staff members often work on organizational wide projects which provide excellent exposure for career advancement. Your career advancement can take two routes: technical/professional or management.

  • The technical/professional track has four advancement levels for Health Systems Engineers and two levels for Project Managers.
  • Health System Engineers and Project Managers can pursue management or leadership roles within ME&IC by becoming unit or section leaders or operational management and administrative leadership roles throughout the organization.
