Responsibilities

Duties of the position include but are not limited to:

  • Obtains patient history, prior films/reports, and any other supportive role information that is needed.
  • Performing screening mammography for periodic or baseline examinations on in-patients and outpatients as requested by referring physicians.
  • Performing diagnostic mammograms on patients with identified breast problems or continued follow up.
  • Performs Quality Control needed for FDA/ACR
  • Radioactive Seed Localization Procedures. Setting up sterile field and arranging all necessary instruments and supplies for the Radiologist. Positioning patient and setting exposure factors. Assisting the radiologist in skin preparation and needle placement. Taking films to confirm seed placement. 
  • Stereotactic Core Needle Breast Biopsy: Preparing the patient for the procedure. Setting up sterile field and arrange all necessary instruments and supplies for the radiologist. Assisting the radiologist in skin preparation and needle placement. 
  • Works with mammogram letters (results/reminders)
  • Assist in maintaining a clean, and orderly department to include procedure rooms, storage areas, dressing rooms, film storage area and any other areas in department.
  • Report potential problems or equipment malfunction to appropriate personnel.
  • Practices infection control and standard precautions
  • Coordination of patient and workflow efficiency 
  • Assists in training of radiography students.
  • Fosters a culture of teamwork, professionalism, and mutual respect.
  • Provides the highest quality patient care by placing the needs of the patient first.
  • Maintains flexibility to staff various work locations, shift times and lengths.
  • Directs and practices safety guidelines for themselves, other staff members, and patients while keeping radiation exposure as low as reasonably achievable. 


Qualifications

Graduated from an accredited Radiography program One year radiographer experience preferred. 

Associates degree preferred Knowledge and experience with Mammography equipment and procedures preferred.

License or Certification

License in Radiography (R) within appropriate State; American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) registration in Radiography (R); American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) registration in Mammography (M) within 18 months of start date; Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days of start date
