Responsibilities

The Department of Quantitative Health Sciences (QHS) at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL is seeking a Clinical Trials Biostatistician to join our team!  The Statistician will have the opportunity to collaborate and lead research on cancer-focused projects through the Mayo Clinic Comprehensive Cancer Center in concert with the Departments of QHS (with its broad talents in biostatistics, bioinformatics, epidemiology and population sciences), Radiation Oncology, Hematology/Oncology, Cancer Biology, and Immunology.  The position will have a balance between collaborative/team-based research and independent research.  

The Department of Quantitative Health Sciences (QHS) is a multidisciplinary department with approximately 70 doctoral level and more than 400 allied health staff members, located across the Mayo Clinic enterprise with primary research sites in Phoenix/Scottsdale, Arizona; Jacksonville, Florida; and Rochester, Minnesota. QHS faculty and staff are dedicated to improving patient care through medical research. Its mission is to grow and enable outstanding leaders in research, provide international leadership in specialties related to our expertise, provide cutting edge education to Mayo Clinic colleagues, serve as a resource for knowledge and data, and provide unique services that support the mission of Mayo Clinic. The Department consists of the Division of Epidemiology, the Division of Clinical Trials and Biostatistics, the Division of Computational Biology, and the Section of Biomedical Ethics. 

The Division of Clinical Trials and Biostatistics is comprised of 25 Ph.D. statisticians, 74 Biostatisticians, and 120 Statistical Programmers, with members based at all 3 Mayo campuses (Minnesota, Arizona, and Florida).  The Division contributes to research areas spanning from basic science to translational research, clinical trials, and population health. Division staff collaborate with investigators within and outside of Mayo Clinic on thousands of active projects, covering a wide range of disciplines including cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, respiratory, cardiology, neurology, radiology, surgery, anesthesiology, nursing, and laboratory medicine and pathology. 

The Division’s unique collaboration model emphasizes the importance of disease area knowledge in the design and analysis of research studies by integrating a dedicated statistical team into research groups. Division staff develop, maintain, and promote state-of-the-art designs and analytical methods expertise and lead multiple initiatives surrounding study designs, data acquisition, data management, analyses, and interpretation of research studies.

Qualifications

The candidate is expected to be an outstanding scholar with a record of achievement and demonstrated ability for successful collaborations. The candidate should have a strong methodological expertise in early phase clinical trial design, clinical trial operations, and general biostatistical analyses including observational studies and outcomes research. Additionally, this position will align with the Mayo Clinic Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Center for Regenerative Biotherapeutics to advance early phase clinical trials that will be driven by innovation stemming from the heavy ion therapy facility, the GMP drug production program on campus (e.g., CAR-T therapy).
