Responsibilities
A Medical Dosimetrist must be able to understand the technical aspects of radiation therapy treatments and communicate these aspects to the Radiation Oncologist and Radiation Therapists. Must have a working knowledge of radiation safety and an above average aptitude in mathematical skills. Must possess the ability to interpret treatment plans as defined in relevant treatment protocols. Must be able to visualize objects in three-dimensional concepts to facilitate the planning process. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span. The ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and appropriately interpret information relative to the patient's age-specific needs is required. Provides teaching instruction to Fellows, Residents, and students.
Qualifications
Current CMD: Current registration by the Medical Dosimetry Certification Board (MDCB) as a board Certified Medical Dosimetrist (CMD). Eligible for CMD: Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree AND graduation from a Medical Dosimetrist Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) accredited program of at least 12 months; OR, a Bachelor’s of Science or Bachelor of Applied Science degree AND completed at least 36 months (or 35 hours per week full time equivalent or 5,460 hours) clinical medical dosimetry experience* before April 2016, under the direction of a Certified Medical Dosimetrist or a medical physicist AND completed 24 continuing education credits approved by the MDCB during 36 months (or 35 hours per week full time equivalent) clinical experience*. Effective January 1, 2017 candidates will be required to have a Bachelor's degree and graduated from a formal Medical Dosimetry program accredited by Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Current Certified Medical Dosimetrist (CMD) credential or be eligible for certification from MDCB to achieve that certification (CMD) within 2 years of hire.
