Responsibilities
A motivated individual who can work collaboratively within a growing group that studies the mechanisms of “gut feelings” in health and disease. The primary focus will be to develop mouse models, maintain and genotype mouse colonies and running in vivo studies. Duties include setting up and performing routine and established lab procedures in support of lab goals and grant commitments. Additional responsibilities will be collecting, entering, and summarizing data, performing basic statistical data analysis, preparing tables/charts/graphs, and assisting in organizing data, monitoring results, reporting unusual outcomes, and suggesting modifications, and assisting in the maintenance of lab equipment and supplies. A successful applicant with be self-motivated, strong work ethic, organized, detail-oriented, and have good communication skills. Experience with molecular biology techniques (e.g. PCR, Gel electrophoresis), familiarity with animal welfare, knowledge of Mendelian genetics, and have a desire to work closely with lab animals preferred but not required
As an Animal Care Technician, your core role responsibilities involve:
- Preparing tissue, blood and other specimens for routine testing.
- Participating in maintenance and identification of animals to be used in experiments.
- Assisting in surgical procedures on animals as needed.
- Recording results & reporting unusual outcomes.
- Collecting/entering/reporting data.
- Demonstrating lab techniques to designated lab personnel.
- Assisting in maintenance of lab equipment and supplies.
Qualifications
- Requires a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Additional relevant laboratory experience and familiarity with animal welfare practices preferred.
- Computer experience is helpful.
- Must have the ability to carry out basic routine techniques independently, and have a desire to work closely with lab animals.
- Must have above average manual dexterity, be able to endure exposures to heat, noise, dust, dander, animal bites, and chemicals.
