Responsibilities

As a laboratory assistant you will be a member of a diverse, agile team responsible for biological specimen receipt, identification verification, processing and storage. In addition, you will perform a variety of clerical, processing, and other laboratory duties that include maintaining supply inventory, filing, stocking, receiving shipments, and cleaning. You will actively partner with team members by fostering an inclusive work environment and respecting others with different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives. This position is located at the Superior Drive Support Center where immediate parking is available. *Individuals hired to this position are required to complete 2 years in this position before becoming eligible to transfer to other positions within Mayo Clinic.
**This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship; Also, Mayo Clinic DOES NOT participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program.
Qualifications
A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
Additional Qualifications
- All applicants must attach a cover letter and resume to their application to be considered for this position.
- Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology/Mayo Collaborative Services (DLMP/MCS) employees that have been in their current lab/position for less than 2 years must attach an early release approval from their supervisor.
- Internal applicants must attach their 3 most recent performance appraisals.
- Knowledge of laboratory functions and medical terminology preferred.
- Science background preferred.
- 1-2 years medical experience preferred.
- Ability to stay organized, prioritize, and shift gears in a busy environment.
- Conscientious of details and strict safety requirements for handling chemicals, reagents, and infectious agents.
- Ability to work independently and as a contributing team member.
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
- Experienced with computers, keyboarding, and telephone operations.

Compensation Detail
Required education, experience, and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The pay range for this position is $17.63 - $23.67 per hour.
