Responsibilities
Medical Oncology is looking to hire a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join our inpatient oncology team.
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) will be an integral part of our hospital practice, caring for patients with a wide variety of solid tumors including Breast, GI, Lung, GU and other less common malignancies. The NP PA will work in collaboration with a multidisciplinary care team of oncologists, residents, fellows, and allied health staff to care for adult inpatients on the Medical Oncology Hospital Service. The patient population will include patients with solid tumors who need evaluation and treatment of cancer related complications, chemotherapy side effects, oncologic emergencies, and symptom management.
The Medical Oncology team is also growing our inpatient consult service. A portion of this role will be covering the inpatient consult service which sees patients through the Rochester Campus that are hospitalized on medicine, surgical or ICU services who would benefit from dedicated oncology support during their inpatient care.
This position offers the opportunity to utilize a high level of internal medicine knowledge, problem-solving and critical thinking skills. The NP PA will be expected to work with a high level of autonomy caring for these patients. Responsibilities will include completing the initial evaluation and work- up at time of admission, developing a differential diagnosis and comprehensive plan of care and coordinating their discharge plan to include follow-up in the outpatient setting with their primary Oncology team. This position requires strong critical thinking, teamwork, and communication skills.
The NP PA will routinely work with other specialties including ICU, palliative care/hospice, surgery, hospital internal medicine, internal medicine subspecialties and interventional radiology to care for these patients.
Qualifications
Masters prepared graduate of an accredited school of nursing and nurse practitioner program. Current Minnesota RN license and certified, as an FNP, ANP or ACNP; or
Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program with current PA certification by the NCCPA and registration as a PA by the Minnesota State Board of Medical Practice.
The NP PA must be eligible for DEA registration.
Strong written and oral communication skills are required and must have demonstrated skill in working collaboratively with all members of the healthcare team.
