Responsibilities
As a Pathology Reporting Specialist in Pathology Support, you will perform a variety of tasks in support of pathologists, and other allied healthcare providers within the labs and practice. You will have the responsibility for ensuring accuracy and completeness of all documents, ordered tests, and patient case reports. This critical role allows pathologists to focus on patient care. Additional tasks include the following:
- Transcribing pathology reports as well as research and administrative documents
- Coordinating patient case correspondence/materials, test orders, stains for cases, answering telephones, and providing related follow-through
- Participation in process improvement which includes data collection, coordinating case conference materials, and maintain consultant calendars.
- Reviewing and ensuring accuracy of work unit operating procedures
- Serving as a resource and mentor to others by training, educating, and mentoring both new and existing members of the work unit
- Trouble shooting and resolving problems
- You will actively partner with team members by fostering an inclusive work environment and respecting others with different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives.
- Works cooperatively with peers in shared work environment and gives and receives constructive feedback.
*Individuals hired to this position are required to complete 2 years in this position before becoming eligible to apply to other positions within Mayo Clinic.

Qualifications
To be considered for this position, you must meet one of the following:
- Five years of secretarial experience
- Associate degree or completion of a formal medical secretary and/or transcriptionist program and three years of experience in healthcare related operational functions (i.e., hospital services, medical administrative assistant, desk or appointment functions)
- Bachelor's degree and one year of relevant lab experience
Additional Qualifications
- Experience working with computer software applications including word processing, spreadsheet, database and electronic calendaring/scheduling systems, and web applications is required.
- Must be able to adapt to a rapidly changing environment and work collaboratively and professionally with a variety of work areas.
- Requires excellent application of grammar, punctuation, and English usage.
- Ability to understand diverse accents and speech variations.
- Ability to prioritize work and follow through independently, support a variety of consultants along with multiple specialties, and handle an assortment of tasks
- Must possess a high-level skill in organization, efficiency, clerical aptitude, attention to detail, excellent written and oral communication skills, and interpersonal relations.
- Demonstrates initiative, proficiency, and good judgment to optimize the use of consultants and other allied healthcare providers' time
- Exhibits high motivation to start and complete tasks independently and in a timely manner
- Commitment to quality and excellence in service
