Responsibilities
This is a limited tenure position that has been approved for xx months/years that may have the possibility of turning into a regular position.
As a Research Technologist, your role responsibilities include:
- Sets up and performs routine and established lab procedures in support of lab goals, grant commitments, i.e. assays, cell/tissue culture, animal studies, etc.
- Monitors results, reports unusual outcomes and suggests modifications.
- Collects, enters and summarizes data.
- Assists in the maintenance of lab equipment and supplies.
- Performs basic statistical data analysis; prepares tables/charts/graphs and assists in organizing data.
- Presents at research laboratory meetings and contributes to writing of manuscripts.
- Works under supervision and may perform some assignments independently as discussed and approved by Principal Investigator.
Additional Details:
The laboratory of Dr. Nobu Suto is looking for a motivated Research Technologist (an Allied Health position) with a strong background in molecular techniques, such as NGS (single cell/nucleus RNA-seq, ATAC-seq), spatial transcriptomics, qPCR, FACS, in situ hybridization and immunohistochemistry. Additional knowledge/experience in bioinformatics will be a big plus. The successful applicant will work on several NIH-funded projects on drug and food addiction to determine brain maladaptation manifesting as addiction-like compulsive behavior in rats and mice. There will be ample opportunities to build one's expertise in a multidisciplinary research approach incorporating established/novel animal models of addiction (based on behavioral learning theories in psychology) and basic molecular/imaging techniques (immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, microscopy, etc.) with cutting-edge methodologies, such as brain-wide profiling (AI-driven image analysis, etc.), gene sequencing and bioinformatics (sc/snRNA-seq, etc.), gene editing, opto/chemogenetics and neurochemical (microdialysis, mass spectrometry, etc.) techniques. The Research Technologist will also have an opportunity to be credited on upcoming publications from these studies.
Qualifications
- Requires bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, other relevant science, OR an associates degree with 6 years of relevant laboratory experience.
- Must exhibit a solid understanding of lab techniques, equipment, and safety.
- Must have the ability to organize and carry out laboratory techniques independently and in a team setting.
- Experience with basic data analysis is required.
- This position requires demonstrated writing skills.
