Responsibilities

The Summer Employment Opportunity Program (SEOP) provides temporary summer employment opportunities to children, step-children and spouses of Mayo Clinic employees enrolled in a college degree granting program of study, and is intended to help supervisors accommodate employee vacation requests when seasonal work volumes are high.

Has direct patient contact and frequent interaction with nurses, radiology techs, desk staff, door attendants, etc. Transport patients, visitors, and patient-related items in a safe and efficient manner. Provide detailed verbal communication to appropriate care team member as part of the handoff during drop off and pick up of patients which includes confirming patient identification. Functions independently and as a team member with minimal supervision and possesses knowledge in the use of a smart phone. Proper input and management of transport requests may be required via computer and/or with General Service dispatch via telephone. Safely operate multiple types of motorized patient transport equipment. Disinfect equipment after each patient use and request maintenance as needed. Perform wheelchair roundups to storage locations or designated floors. Employees in this role will stand and/or walk 10-12 miles per 8-hour shift and frequently push/pull patients up to 200 pounds and occasionally up to or exceeding 350 pounds. Transport patients who require the use of oxygen, intravenous pumps, wound vacs and/or other special equipment. Uses various medical equipment and partners with the healthcare team to ensure patent safety and an oxygen warning card is completed. Understands and adheres to the medical isolation precautions, protocols, and PPE requirements. Confirm these precautions with Epic information and a member of the patient’s care team. At the direction/assistance from member(s) of the medical care team, frequently perform lateral slide transfers with the use of a slider board and slider sheet to transfer patients to/from beds and/or stretchers and occasionally assist with hooking up/disconnecting ceiling lift slings. Provide patient and visitor assistance as necessary. Transport critical care patients requiring Nurse and/or Respiratory Therapist accompaniment. Monitor patient’s condition during transport when a patient care staff member is not accompanied. Be aware of the patient’s medical condition while in route. Recognize and monitor changes in the patient’s condition which may require a medical emergency call. Working hours may include days, evenings, overnights, holidays, and weekends with rotating days off. Staff may be required to attend meetings outside of normal work schedule and/or assist in the training of new employees. Minimum of 80 hours of on the job training is necessary to perform basic job functions.



Qualifications

Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and three years customer service experience required. One year previous hospital, clinical or patient care experience preferred. Must be able to work independently and in a group setting with minimal supervision. Requires exceptional verbal communication skills as well as telephone and human relation skills to interact with patients, guests, and staff. Must communicate effectively in a professional and respectful manner during high-stress situations. Must be able to adapt to unpredictable and stressful situations, while maintaining a calm and pleasant demeanor. Strong problem-solving skills are necessary. Must be able to demonstrate exceptional initiative and a proven ability to quickly respond to customer needs in a fast-paced work environment. Basic computer skills are required, with proficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook. Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.

Additional Qualifications
· Must be the child, step-child, or spouse of a current Mayo Clinic employee.

· Must be currently enrolled in a degree granting program.

· Must be returning to college in the fall.

· Must be able to work a minimum of 10 weeks.

· Must be 18 years of age or older by the start of the program.
