Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN, has an immediate opening for a full-time molecular-based Laboratory Genetic Counselor in the areas of perinatal disorders, carrier screening and hereditary hearing loss, including variant interpretation and classification of next generation sequencing panels.
Genetic counselors play an integral role in the management and operations of our clinical genetic testing laboratories. The genetic counselor hired into this position will work directly with small established teams of laboratory-based counselors who comprise a dedicated and long-standing group of over 30 lab genetic counselors at Mayo Clinic. The selected candidates will also work closely with laboratory directors and laboratory personnel.
Other primary roles and responsibilities of the molecular genetic counselor include patient case management, involvement in test utilization practices, primary liaison and communication to external health care providers, promotion of consistent test reporting standards, test design and development, and education to several rotating student groups (genetic counseling graduate students, medical residents, and fellows).
