Performs supervisory responsibilities for the work unit; the incumbent will continue to serve in the role of genetic counselor as dictated by available time and need for genetic counselor coverage. The supervisor is responsible for the management and development of staff. Provides oversight to and is accountable for quality and service, regulatory compliance, work unit safety, strategic planning, document management and developing and implementing new services. Works cooperatively with a wide variety of customers as well as internal and external resources. Contributes to Mayo's mission through emphasis on Mayo's model of care, change, patient focused care, quality and cost containment. Preference will given to candidates who have experience as a full-time, clinical Genetic Counselor.
Master of Science or Master of Arts in Genetic Counseling granted by a genetic counseling program accredited by the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) required. Eligible for active candidate status as defined by ABGC or board certified by the American Board of Medical Genetics (ABMG) or the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) necessary.
Previous supervisory experience or 5+ years working in the clinical setting preferred.
Must be knowledgeable of and pay particular attention to the quality control procedures and laboratory safety regulations. Experience with computers is necessary. Must have demonstrated leadership, communication (oral and written) and, problem solving and organizational ability. Must be highly organized, efficient, and able to work independently. Requires human relations skills to influence and motivate
License or certification
Genetic counselors who reside in or provide direct patient care in the state of Minnesota must be licensed by the state of Minnesota.
Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.
Schedule aligns with outpatient clinic hours, 7:30am to 5:00pm, with occasional time before or after formal clinic hours as needed.
